SETTING
APERTURE
The
effective
aperture
of
this
lens
changes
as
it
is
zoomed
between
35mm
and
105mm.
At
35mm,
maximum
and
minimum
apertures
are
f/3.5
and
f/22,
respectively;
at
105mm,
they
aref/4.5and
f/28.
TTL
(through-the-lens)
metering
of
Minolta
cameras
automatically
meters
for
the
light
actually
passing
through
the
lens.
In
automatic
exposure
mode,
such
as
"AUTO"
or
"A"
(aperture-priority),
"S"
(shutter-speed
priori¬
ty),
or
"P"
(program)
mode,
the
camera
auto¬
matically
controls
exposure
so
that
no
compen¬
sation
is
required.
When
using
metered
manual
("M")
mode,
the
correct
exposure
reading
can
be
viewed
in
the
finder;
exposure
compensation
is
not
necessary.
In
full
manual
mode
(i.e.,
when
using
a
hand-held
light
meter)
or
for
flash
photography
(other
than
with
programmed
flash),
the
aperture
should
be
set
after
zooming
to
the
desired
focal
length.
Two
aperture
indexes
are
provided
on
the
lens
barrel.
The
longer
orange
index
indicates
the
aperture
of
the
lens
when
the
focal
length
is
set
at
the
shortest
focal
length
(35mm),
and
the
shorter
yellow
index
indicates
the
aperture
when
the
focal
length
is
set
at
the
longest
focal
length
(105mm).
The
aperture
indexes
are
color-coordinated
with
the
local-length
designations
on
the
lens
barrel
for
quick
reference.
When
the
lens
is
zoomed
to
a
focal
length
between
the
shortest
and
longest,
set
the
desired
aperture
at
the
index
corre¬
sponding
to
the
nearer
focal
length.
When
using
an
SLR
with
a
window
for
aperture
readout
in
the
viewfinder,
the
aperture
displayed
corresponds
to
the
35mm
setting.
NOTE
Zooming
causes
a
change
in
effective
aperture
amounting
to
about
one
half-stop
over
the
lens'
full
focal-length
range.
There¬
fore,
to
precisely
control
exposure
when
using
the
AE
lock
(found
on
the
X-700
camera),
compensate
for
this
change
before
engaging
the
lock
or
do
not
zoom
after
engaging
the
lock.
