WARNING
extinguished, leave the engine compartment hatch
closed until the compartment has had a chance
to cool. This is particularly important when using
FE-241 re extinguishers. FE-241 is heavier than
air and interferes with the combustion process. If
the engine compartment hatch is opened too soon,
the extinguishing agent could escape and a ash
back could occur if the hot components have not
cooled below a combustible temperature.
DO NOT OPEN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT HATCH
IMMEDIATELY!! THIS FEEDS OXYGEN TO THE FIRE AND FLASH
BACK COULD RESULT. ALLOW THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT
TO COOL FOR AT LEAST 15 MINUTES BEFORE CAUTIOUSLY
INSPECTING FOR CAUSE OR DAMAGE. HAVE AN APPROVED
PORTABLE FIRE EXTINGUISHER CLOSE AT HAND AND READY
FOR USE. DO NOT BREATH FUMES OR VAPORS CAUSED BY
THE FIRE!
1.7 Automatic Fire Extinguishing
System (Optional)
The engine compartment can be equipped with an
automatic re extinguishing system. The equip-
ment has been chosen and located to provide suf-
cient volume and coverage of the entire engine
compartment area. While the system ensures
excellent bilge re protection, it does not eliminate
the U.S. Coast Guard requirement for hand held
re extinguishers. The automatic re extinguish-
ing system is automatically activated when the
temperature in the engine compartment reaches
a specic temperature, usually around 165
0
F.
The boat is equipped with an indicator light at the
helm. Under normal circumstances, whenever
the ignition key is turned on, the green indicator
light will glow. This indicates that the system is
operating and ready for activation if necessary.
If the indicator light does not glow when the ig-
nition switch is turned on, either the system has
discharged or there is a problem that should be
corrected before using the boat.
The green light on the re extinguisher panel will
go off and an alarm will sound if activation should
occur during the operation of the boat. You may
also hear a rushing air sound as the extinguishing
agent discharges.
Typical Fire Port
Typically, the extinguishing agent will shut down
the engine when it discharges. If the engine
continues to run, it should immediately be shut
down manually, provided it is safe to do so. You
should also shut off the blower and the main bat-
tery switch. The engine can be restarted once the
re extinguishing agent has dissipated from the
engine compartment.
When sufcient time has elapsed for the re to be
extinguished and a ashback is no longer possible,
nd and x the problem, then activate the battery
switch and the engine can be restarted.
