GETTING STARTED
RECEIVING A TRUNKED OR
CONVENTIONAL CALL
REPEATER OR TALKAROUND J
MODE
(CONVENTIONAL OPERATION ONLY)
Talkaround mode enables you to communicate
with another radio when either:
The repeater is not operating
–or–
Your radio is out of the repeater’s range but
within communicating distance of another
radio.
Note: The J symbol appears on the LCD
screen when talkaround mode is
selected.
To select either repeater mode or
talkaround mode:
Press the preprogrammed Repeater/
Talkaround button (see page 12) to toggle
between repeater mode and talkaround mode.
–or–
3 Hold the radio in a vertical
position at a distance of about
1 to 2 inches (2.5 to 5 cm)
from your mouth.
4 Press the PTT button and speak clearly into
the microphone. The LED indicator lights
steady red while the call is being sent.
5 Release the PTT button to listen.
1 Turn your radio on.
2 Adjust your radio’s volume (see page 22).
3 Select the desired trunked or conventional
zone (see page 22, "Selecting a Trunked
Zone and Talkgroup" or page 24, "Selecting a
Conventional Zone and Channel".
Make sure the PTT button is released.
4 Listen for voice activity. The LED indicator
blinks red when your radio is receiving.
