Why my MTD RZT Lawn Mower engine fails to start?

  Your MTD Lawn Mower engine might fail to start due to several reasons: * The PTO/Blade Engage knob is engaged: Disengage the knob. * The parking brake isn't engaged: Engage it. * Drive control levers are not fully outward: Move them to the neutral position. * Spark plug wires are disconnected: Connect them. * Throttle lever is not in the fast position: Place it in the fast position. * Choke not activated: Pull the choke control into full choke position. * Fuel tank empty or fuel is stale: Fill the tank with fresh gas. * Blocked fuel line: Clean the fuel line and replace the fuel filter. * Faulty spark plug: Clean, adjust the gap, or replace the plug. * Engine flooded: Crank the engine with the throttle in the FAST position.

  To fix rough idling on your MTD Lawn Mower: 1. Replace fouled or faulty spark plugs, or set the plug gap if it's too wide. 2. Replace the air cleaner element and/or clean the pre-cleaner if it's dirty.

  If your MTD Lawn Mower engine is running erratically, here's what you can do: * Ensure the choke is off. Push the choke control into the choke off position. * Check and connect any loose spark plug wires. * Clean the fuel line, replace the fuel filter, and use fresh gasoline. * Clear any blockage in the gas cap vent or replace the cap if it's damaged. * Drain the fuel tank and refill it with clean, fresh gasoline. * Replace the air cleaner paper element or clean the foam pre-cleaner.
