Do you have a question about the MULTISPAN AMP-23 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The AMP-23 is a 3-phase panel meter designed for industrial applications, offering precise measurement and display of electrical parameters. It features a compact design and a user-friendly interface for easy operation and configuration.

Function Description

The primary function of the AMP-23 is to measure and display current in a 3-phase electrical system. It provides individual readings for R, Y, and B phases, as well as an average current reading. The device is equipped with a 4-digit, 7-segment red LED display for clear visibility of the measured values. It also includes LED indicators for each phase (R, Y, B) to visually represent the active phase measurements and an indicator for the average current.

A key feature of the AMP-23 is its Current Transformer (CT) Ratio selection capability, allowing users to configure the device to match the CTs used in their system. This ensures accurate current measurements across a wide range of primary current values. The CT ratio can be adjusted in steps, accommodating various system requirements from 5 Amp to 6000 Amp.

Usage Features

The AMP-23 is designed for ease of use and configuration.

  • CT Ratio Selection:
    1. To enter the CT Ratio selection mode, press and hold the "SET" key for 10 seconds. The display will show "CT r" (CT Ratio).
    2. To confirm, press and hold the "SET" key for 2 seconds. The display will then show the present CT Ratio value.
    3. To increase the CT Ratio, press the "UP" key.
    4. To decrease the CT Ratio, press the "DOWN" key.
    5. If no key is pressed for 5 seconds, the CT Ratio will automatically save and exit the configuration mode.
    6. The CT Ratio can be adjusted incrementally:
      • From 5 to 100 CT Ratio: increased by step 5 Amp.
      • From 100 to 1000 CT Ratio: increased by step 25 Amp.
      • From 1000 to 2000 CT Ratio: increased by step 50 Amp.
      • From 2000 to 6000 CT Ratio: increased by step 500 Amp.
  • Page Scrolling/Hold: Pressing the "SET" key for 2 seconds will scroll through pages. If the "SET" key is pressed again for 2 seconds, the page will be held.
  • Installation Guidelines:
    • The equipment is designed as a built-in type, becoming part of the main control panel. Terminals are not accessible to the end user after installation.
    • Prevent metal pieces, wire clippings, or fine metallic fillings from entering the product to avoid safety hazards.
    • A circuit breaker or mains switch must be installed between the power source and supply terminal for ON/OFF function, placed in an easily accessible location.
    • Operate and store the instrument within the specified ambient temperature and humidity ranges.
    • Wiring: Use wires with adequate rating and twists of equal size for shortest connection to reduce electromagnetic interference. Power source connection cables should have a cross-section of 1mm² or greater and insulation capacity of at least 1.5kV. For extending thermocouple lead wires (if applicable, though this device is a current meter), use compensation wires with small lead resistance (50 max per line) and no resistance differentials among three wires.
    • Mechanical Installation: Prepare a panel cutout of 68mm x 68mm. Fit the unit into the panel using the provided clamp. Ensure the equipment is not in close proximity to heating sources, caustic vapors, oil steam, or other unwanted process by-products. Use M3.5 screws with a tightening torque of 1.2 N.m for wiring the terminal block. Do not connect anything to unused terminals.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of the AMP-23.

  • Cleaning: The equipment should be cleaned regularly to prevent blockage of ventilating parts. Use a clean, soft cloth for cleaning. Avoid using isopropyl alcohol or any other harsh cleaning agents.
  • Fuse: The fusible resistor must not be replaced by the operator.

Safety Precautions

  • Always follow safety-related codifications, symbols, and instructions in the operating manual and on the equipment.
  • Improper handling may impair the protection provided by the equipment.
  • Read complete instructions before installation and operation.
  • WARNING: Risk of electric shock. Ensure power supply to the equipment is OFF during wiring. Do not touch terminals when power is supplied.

The AMP-23 is a reliable and essential component for monitoring current in 3-phase electrical systems, offering accuracy, durability, and ease of integration into industrial control panels.
