Why is my Napoleon 450 Grill burner not lighting with the igniter?
    • D
      Derek WardJul 28, 2025
If your Napoleon Grill burner won't light with the igniter but lights with a match, the cause may be a dead or incorrectly installed battery. Replace it with a heavy-duty 'AAA' battery, installing it with the positive terminal up. Also, check that the electrode wire is firmly pushed onto the terminal on the back of the igniter. Ensure you are using the correct replacement igniter (one spark systems must use a one spark igniter). Make sure that the collector box is tight, and the gap between the electrode end and the collector box is between 1/8 - 3/16", adjusting by bending the box if needed. Lifting flames on burner can also be the reason.

What to do if Napoleon 450 has excessive flare-ups or uneven heat?
    • D
      Deborah AllenAug 1, 2025
If your Napoleon Grill is experiencing excessive flare-ups or uneven heat, ensure the sear plates are installed correctly with the holes towards the front and the slots on the bottom. Pre-heat the grill with both main burners on high for 10 to 15 minutes. Regularly clean the sear plates and drip pan, and do not line the pan with aluminum foil. Excessive grease and ash build up on sear plates and in drip pan can cause this problem.

Why does my Napoleon 450 Grill have low heat or low flame?
    • H
      hillrobertAug 6, 2025
If your Napoleon Grill has low heat or a low flame when the valve is turned to high, it could be due to several reasons. For propane, ensure you are following the correct lighting procedure, making sure all gas grill valves are in the off position when the tank valve is turned on, and turn the tank on slowly to allow pressure to equalize. For natural gas, the supply line might be undersized and must be sized according to installation code. For both propane and natural gas, improper preheating could be the cause. Pre-heat the grill with both main burners on high for 10 to 15 minutes.

Why do Napoleon 450 Grill burners burn with yellow flame and smell of gas?
    • J
      johnosborneAug 10, 2025
If the burners on your Napoleon Grill burn with a yellow flame and are accompanied by the smell of gas, it is possibly due to a spider web or other debris, or improper air shutter adjustment. Thoroughly clean the burner by removing it. Open the air shutter slightly according to the combustion air adjustment instructions.

What to do if "paint" is peeling inside my Napoleon Grill lid?
    • X
      xhubbardAug 14, 2025
If what appears to be paint is peeling inside your Napoleon Grill lid or hood, this is not a defect. The finish on the lid and hood is porcelain and will not peel. The peeling is caused by hardened grease, which dries into paint-like shards that will flake off. Regular cleaning will prevent this.

Why are flames lifting away from my Napoleon Grill burner?
    • S
      Sharon GilmoreAug 19, 2025
If the flames are lifting away from the burner on your Napoleon Grill, accompanied by the smell of gas, and possibly difficulties in lighting, it is due to improper air shutter adjustment. Close the air shutter slightly according to the combustion air adjustment instructions.

Why won't the burners crosslight each other on my Napoleon 450?
    • A
      Allison ChanAug 25, 2025
If the burners on your Napoleon Grill will not crosslight each other, it is because of plugged ports along the back of the burner. Clean the burner ports.
