Questions and Answers

Why is the Napoleon Gas grill not getting hot enough?
    • R
      Renee MillerAug 19, 2025
If your Napoleon Gas grill has low heat or a low flame even when the valve is turned to high, the cause may be an improper lighting procedure (for propane), an undersized supply line (for natural gas), or improper preheating (for both gases). To resolve this, ensure the lighting procedure is followed carefully: all gas grill valves must be in the off position when the tank valve is turned on, and the tank should be turned on slowly to allow pressure to equalize. Also, make sure the pipe is sized according to the installation code. Preheat the grill with both main burners on high for 10 to 15 minutes.

How to stop flare-ups on my Napoleon Gas grill?
    • S
      Stephen KlineAug 21, 2025
Excessive flare-ups and uneven heat in your Napoleon Gas grill may be due to sear plates installed incorrectly, improper preheating, or excessive grease and ash buildup on the sear plates and in the drip pan. Ensure sear plates are installed with the holes towards the front and the slots on the bottom. Preheat the grill with both main burners on high for 10 to 15 minutes. Clean sear plates and the drip pan regularly, and do not line the pan with aluminum foil.

What to do if the infrared burner on my Napoleon Gas grill flashes back?
    • D
      david24Aug 25, 2025
If the infrared burner on your Napoleon Gas grill flashes back, making a loud 'whoosh' sound and growing dim, it could be due to ceramic tiles overloaded with grease, clogged ports, overheating from inadequate ventilation, a cracked ceramic tile, or a leaking gasket. Turn the burner off and let it cool for at least two minutes. Relight it and burn on high for at least five minutes until the ceramic tiles are evenly glowing red. Ensure that no more than 75% of the grill surface is covered. If cracks are found after cooling, contact your Napoleon dealer to order a replacement burner assembly.

Why does my Napoleon Gas grill have yellow flames and smell like gas?
    • V
      Vincent JohnsonAug 26, 2025
If the burners on your Napoleon Gas grill burn with a yellow flame and you smell gas, it's possibly due to a spider web or other debris, or an improper air shutter adjustment. Thoroughly clean the burner by removing it. Open the air shutter slightly according to combustion air adjustment instructions. Note that adjusting the air shutter must be done by a qualified gas installer.

Why are the flames lifting away from the burner on my Napoleon Gas grill?
    • J
      Jill LucasAug 28, 2025
If the flames lift away from the burner of your Napoleon Gas grill, accompanied by the smell of gas, and possibly difficulties in lighting, it is caused by an improper air shutter adjustment. Close the air shutter slightly according to combustion air adjustment instructions. Note that adjusting the air shutter must be done by a qualified gas installer.

How to fix burners that won't cross light on Napoleon Gas grill?
    • D
      Daniel GutierrezAug 29, 2025
If the burners on your Napoleon Gas grill will not cross light each other, it is because of plugged ports at the back of the burner. Clean the burner ports.

    Richard LowerySep 1, 2025
Why is the 'paint' peeling inside the lid of my Napoleon Gas grill?
    • D
      Diana HuntSep 1, 2025
If what appears to be 'paint' is peeling inside the lid or hood of your Napoleon Gas grill, this is not a defect. The finish on the lid and hood is porcelain and will not peel. The peeling is caused by hardened grease, which dries into paint-like shards that flake off. Regular cleaning will prevent this.

Why does my Napoleon Grill have excessive flare-ups and uneven heat?
    • K
      Kaylee DavidSep 3, 2025
Excessive flare-ups and uneven heat in your Napoleon Grill can occur due to several reasons. The sear plates might be installed incorrectly—ensure they are installed with the holes towards the front and the slots on the bottom. Improper preheating can also be a factor; preheat the grill with both main burners on high for 10 to 15 minutes. Lastly, excessive grease and ash build-up on the sear plates and in the drip pan can cause this issue. Clean the sear plates and drip pan regularly, and avoid lining the pan with aluminum foil.

How to fix low heat or low flame on my Napoleon Grill when the valve is on high?
    • R
      Ricardo KnoxSep 5, 2025
If you're experiencing low heat or a low flame on your Napoleon Grill when the valve is turned to high, especially with propane, it may be due to an improper lighting procedure. Ensure you follow the lighting procedure carefully. All gas grill valves must be in the off position when the tank valve is turned on. Turn the tank on slowly to allow the pressure to equalize.

What to do if burner output on 'high' is too low on my Napoleon LEX 485?
    • S
      santoscourtneySep 6, 2025
If the burner output on the 'high' setting is too low on your Napoleon Grill, accompanied by a rumbling noise and blue flame at the burner surface, it could be due to several factors: a lack of gas, a pinched supply hose, a dirty or clogged orifice, or spider webs/matter in the venturi tube. Check the gas level in your propane cylinder, reposition the supply hose if it's pinched, clean the burner orifice, and clean out the venturi tube.
