  Excessive flare-ups and uneven heat on your Napoleon Grill can be caused by sear plates installed incorrectly, improper preheating, or excessive grease and ash build-up. Ensure sear plates are installed with the holes towards the front and the slots on the bottom. Preheat the grill with both main burners on high for 10 to 15 minutes. Clean sear plates and the drip pan regularly, and do not line the pan with aluminum foil.

  Low heat or low flame on your Napoleon Grill, when the valve is turned to high, may result from a few causes. If using propane, ensure the lighting procedure is followed carefully, with all gas grill valves in the off position when the tank valve is turned on, and turn the tank on slowly to allow pressure to equalize. If using natural gas, the supply line might be undersized; the pipe must be sized according to installation code. For both gases, improper preheating can be a factor. Preheat the grill with both main burners on high for 10 to 15 minutes.

  If the infrared burner on your Napoleon Grill flashes back, it could be due to several reasons: ceramic tiles overloaded with grease, clogged ports, overheating due to inadequate ventilation, cracked ceramic tile, or a leaking gasket. Turn the burner off and allow it to cool for at least two minutes. Relight the burner and burn on high for at least five minutes, or until the ceramic tiles are evenly glowing red. Ensure that no more than 75% of the grill surface is covered. If cracks are found, contact your authorized Napoleon dealer to order a replacement burner assembly.

  If the burners on your Napoleon Grill burn with a yellow flame and there's a smell of gas, it may be due to a spider web or other debris, or an improper air shutter adjustment. Thoroughly clean the burner by removing it.

  If what appears to be paint is peeling inside the lid or hood of your Napoleon Grill, this is not a defect. The finish on the lid and hood is porcelain, and will not peel. The peeling is caused by hardened grease, which dries into paint-like shards, that flake off. Regular cleaning will prevent this.

  A humming regulator is a normal occurrence on hot days and is not a defect. It is caused by internal vibrations in the regulator and does not affect the performance or safety of the Napoleon gas grill. Humming regulators will not be replaced.
