Usage Features

The VT-2200 is designed for straightforward installation and operation:

  • Installation Flexibility: The device can be secured to the chassis of the vehicle using external mounting tabs. It is recommended to place the unit in a location that will not interfere with the safety of vehicle operation, such as under the dashboard, behind the radio, or under the passenger side.
  • Antenna Mounting: The combination antenna (cellular and GPS) can be mounted on glass, on the dashboard, or as a covert installation. For glass mounts, the antenna should have a clear view of at least 40 percent of the sky and be oriented with the top section facing the sky. For covert installations, it can be mounted on non-metallic materials such as plastic, fiberboard, or fiberglass, ensuring the top part of the antenna faces the sky. The minimum distance between other transmission antennas should be at least 18 inches.
  • Wiring: The VT-2200 uses a 4-pin Molex connector for power, ground, and ignition leads. A 5-amp fuse is inline with the power and ignition lead for protection. It is crucial to verify that the power source is constant 12V+ and the ignition wire is 12V+ when the ignition is in the "ON" position.
  • Post-Installation Testing: After installation, verify the unit's operational status by checking the solid blue lights on the face of the VT-2200 (PWR, GPS, and COM). The radio LED will flicker while transmitting. Login to the NexTraq application to verify the unit is operational and displayed, and check the recent history in NexTraq.
  • Troubleshooting: The installation guide provides detailed troubleshooting steps for common issues, such as the unit not powering up, vehicle not appearing in NexTraq Web application, COM light not on or blinks, and ignition light not on when vehicle is switched on.

Maintenance Features

While the manual primarily focuses on installation, some aspects relate to maintenance and longevity:

  • Durable Design: The waterproof and dustproof enclosure protects the internal components from environmental factors, reducing the need for frequent maintenance due to wear and tear.
  • Fuse Protection: The inline 5-amp fuse on the power and ignition leads protects the device from power surges, preventing damage to the unit.
  • Antenna Care: Proper installation and placement of the antenna are crucial for optimal performance. Ensuring the antenna has a clear view of the sky and is not obstructed by metallic sunscreens or pinched cables helps maintain signal integrity.
  • Wiring Integrity: The use of automotive-grade connectors and proper wiring techniques (e.g., solid metal surface for ground, crimping and securing connections) ensures a reliable electrical connection, minimizing potential issues.
  • Regular Checks: The post-installation testing steps, such as checking the LED indicators and verifying operation through the NexTraq application, serve as initial maintenance checks to ensure the device is functioning correctly.
  • Customer Support: NexTraq provides customer support for any questions regarding wiring colors or other installation and operational queries, which is a key maintenance resource.
