A Electronic Analog Exposure Displays
The electronic analog exposure displays in the viewfinder and top control
panel show whether the photograph would be under- or over-exposed at
current settings.
Depending on the option chosen for Custom Setting b2
([EV steps for exposure cntrl.], pg. 313), the amount of under- or over-
exposure is shown in increments of
1
/3 EV,
1
/2 EV, or 1 EV.
If the limits of
the exposure metering system are exceeded, the displays will flash.
A Long Time-Exposures
At a shutter speed of A, the shutter will
remain open while the shutter-release button
is held down.
Use for long time-exposure
photographs of moving lights, the stars, night
scenery, or fireworks.
Nikon recommends
using a fully-charged EN-EL4a battery or an
optional EH-6 AC adapter to prevent loss of
power while the shutter is open.
Note that
noise and distortion may be present in long
exposures; before shooting, choose [On] for
the [Long exp.
NR] option in the shooting
menu (pg. 299).

See Custom Setting f10 ([Reverse indicators], pg. 343) for information on
reversing the electronic analog exposure display.
