BSETUP MENU> Lock mirror up for cleaning
If foreign matter can not be removed from the low-pass fi lter using the Clean image sensor option,
the fi lter can be cleaned manually as described below. Note, however, that the fi lter is extremely del-
icate and easily damaged. Nikon recommends that the fi lter be cleaned only by Nikon-authorized
service personnel.
Charge the battery or connect an AC adapter.
A reliable power source is required when inspecting or cleaning the low-pass fi lter. Turn the
camera off and insert a fully-charged battery or connect an optional power connector and AC
adapter (page 6).
Remove the lens.
Turn the camera off and remove the lens.
Select Lock mirror up for cleaning.
Turn the camera on and press the
G button to display the menus.
Highlight Lock mirror up for clean-
ing in the setup menu and press 2
(note that this option is not avail-
able at battery levels of J or be-
low).

Select Start.
Press J.
J button
The message shown at right will be displayed in the monitor and a row of
dashes will appear in the viewfi nder and control panel (D800/D800E) or
top control panel (D4). To restore normal operation without inspecting
the low-pass fi lter, turn the camera off .
