Overview

The NOAM NUTV5 Series is a comprehensive audio system designed for UTV, ATV, and marine environments, offering a robust and high-quality sound experience. This system is engineered for durability and performance in challenging outdoor conditions, with a focus on ease of installation for both enthusiasts and professionals. The NUTV5 series is built as a complete package, where all included components—speakers, amplifier, and controller—are designed and tuned to work seamlessly together as a full audio system.

Function Description

The core function of the NUTV5 Series is to provide a powerful and clear audio output for off-road vehicles and boats. It integrates an amplifier, speakers, and a controller to deliver a full-range sound experience. The system is designed to operate on 12-volt, negative-ground electrical systems, making it compatible with most UTVs, ATVs, and marine vessels.

The HS4 Amplifier is a central component, functioning as an IPX6 waterproof, state-of-the-art, True Class D, 4-channel full-range amplifier. Its primary role is to power the connected speakers and subwoofers efficiently. The amplifier features fully variable high-pass and low-pass crossovers, allowing for precise tuning to drive a wide variety of either full-range speakers or subwoofers, depending on the specific NUTV5 model. The amplifier's chassis is marine-rated, offering protection against accidental exposure to water and mud, though it is recommended to install it in a dry, protected area to ensure longevity. The amplifier's power indicator light provides visual feedback on its status, turning blue when connections are optimal and red when in protection mode due to issues like short circuits or inadequate voltage.

The N5 Speakers are designed to deliver clear and robust audio. Each N5 speaker features a front 5.25-inch waterproof speaker and a 20mm PEI diaphragm tweeter for crisp highs. On the back, a passive radiator is incorporated to enhance the bass experience, providing a fuller sound without requiring a separate subwoofer in some configurations. These speakers are built to withstand the elements, ensuring reliable performance in outdoor settings.

For models that include it, the NSUB Subwoofer is a unique addition, being the very first roll cage-mounted subwoofer. It is equipped with a 10-inch marine subwoofer speaker on the front and two 3x6-inch passive radiators on the back. The NSUB is specifically designed to provide deep, resonant bass, significantly enriching the overall audio experience, particularly in the NUTV5-S and NUTV5-S QUAD models.

The system also includes a Bluetooth remote controller, which allows users to manage their audio playback wirelessly. This controller facilitates easy adjustment of volume, track selection, and other audio settings, enhancing user convenience while on the go.

Usage Features

The NUTV5 Series is designed for straightforward operation and integration into vehicles.

  • Power Connection: The amplifier requires a direct connection to the vehicle's battery due to its power demands, ensuring a stable and sufficient power supply. This avoids potential issues that might arise from connecting to a bus bar.
  • Speaker Connections: The manual provides detailed instructions for connecting speakers to the amplifier's output channels. For N5 speakers, positive (red) terminals connect to positive output channels (solid colors), and negative (black) terminals connect to negative output channels (mixed colors). In NUTV5-S models, the NSUB subwoofer is powered by bridging the two rear channels of the amplifier, with specific wiring instructions for its red (+) and black (-) wires to the left rear positive and right rear negative channels, respectively. For NUTV5 QUAD and NUTV5-S QUAD systems, multiple N5 speakers are connected using Y splitters to the front and rear channels, ensuring proper load distribution and sound staging.
  • Channel Positioning: Users are advised to position speakers according to their connected amplifier channel (left or right) to maintain proper stereo imaging.
  • Head Unit Integration: The system is designed to connect to a user-supplied head unit, with instructions referring to the head unit's own manual for specific connection details.
  • Initial System Test: After installation, users are guided to test the system by turning on the controller and observing the amplifier's power indicator light. A blue light indicates proper function, while a red light signals a protection mode, prompting troubleshooting.
  • Audio Playback: Once the system is confirmed to be working, users can play music to ensure all components are functioning as expected.
  • Amplifier Mounting: The amplifier should be mounted in a dry, well-ventilated location to protect it from water and mud and to facilitate heat dissipation.

Maintenance Features

Maintaining the NUTV5 Series involves understanding its design limitations and recommended practices to ensure long-term performance and warranty validity.

  • Water Protection: While the HS4 amplifier is IPX6 waterproof, it is crucial to install it in a location protected from direct exposure to water and mud. Water damage is explicitly not covered by the product's warranty. Users are warned against cleaning the amplifier with high-pressure or regular water hoses.
  • Thermal Management: The sealed nature of the IPX6-rated amplifier means heat generated during operation has limited escape. Users are advised not to touch the amplifier's surface during or immediately after riding, as it can become hot. Mounting the amplifier in a well-ventilated area, away from engine compartments or extreme heat sources, is essential to prevent overheating.
  • Gain and Crossover Settings: The amplifier's gains and crossover settings are factory preset to optimally power the specific NUTV5 system. Users are strongly advised to maintain these factory settings, as incorrect adjustments (e.g., setting gains too high) can lead to overpowering speakers, causing thermal or mechanical failure (burnt voice coils, torn surrounds or spiders), which are not covered by the warranty. If adjustments are deemed necessary, users should either have professional assistance or possess a thorough understanding of audio system tuning.
  • Accessing Controls: The amplifier's settings and controls are located beneath a protective gasket cover on the front panel. When accessing these controls, users must carefully remove and then precisely replace the six screws and gasket to avoid compromising the amplifier's waterproof ratings.
  • Secure Mounting: All components, especially the amplifier, must be securely mounted to prevent them from coming loose during collisions, sudden jolts, or repeated vibrations common in UTV/ATV environments.
  • Wiring Protection: System wiring should be carefully routed to avoid sharp edges (metal, fiberglass, etc.). Using grommets and loom, and tying down wires, protects them from damage and prevents unwanted noise interference. Running wires outside or underneath the vehicle/vessel is explicitly discouraged due to safety risks and potential damage.
  • Battery Condition: Amplifiers place an increased load on the vehicle's battery and charging system. It is recommended to check the alternator/stator and battery condition to ensure the electrical system can handle the increased load. While stock batteries in good condition might suffice, using a heavy-duty battery or a dedicated second battery for the NUTV5 system is suggested to maximize performance and battery life.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual includes a troubleshooting guide to address common issues such as no sound, amplifier not turning on, distorted output, or noise. This guide helps users identify potential causes (e.g., incorrect wiring, faulty fuse, poor connections, overheating, reversed speaker wires, or alternator noise) and provides corresponding solutions. For persistent issues or defective components, users are directed to contact NOAM audio support.
