The ONYX™ Series ACS Annunciators are a modular line of products designed for annunciation and control within Notifier's ONYX™ Series NFS-640 Intelligent Fire Alarm Control Panel and NCA Network Control Annunciator, as well as older Notifier fire control panels like the AM2020, AFP1010, AFP-400, AFP-300, and AFP-200. These devices provide arrays of LEDs to indicate point status and, in some versions, include switches to control output circuits. They utilize a serial interface, allowing them to be located up to 6,000 feet (1,828.8 meters) from the main panel, which significantly reduces installation costs.
The ACS Series annunciators serve as remote interfaces for monitoring and controlling various aspects of a fire alarm system. They display the status of indicating circuits, control relays, and system status conditions through a series of LEDs. Depending on the model, they can also include touch-key switches for remote control of system relays, silence, reset, and evacuate functions.
A key feature is the speaker control mode, compatible with XPIQ and several Notifier panels (NFS-640, AM2020, AFP1010, AFC-600, AFP-400, AFP-300). This mode enables the ACS units to control groups of multi-channels mapped to specific groups of speakers, facilitating targeted audio evacuation or communication.
The system supports both per-point annunciation for alarm/circuit on and trouble conditions, or a more dense alarm-only option, allowing for flexible configuration based on specific monitoring needs. LEDs can be programmed to display the status of individual circuits or control relays, as well as general system status conditions. For panels like the AM2020 and AFP1010, a fan control option (manual/automatic) is available, further extending the control capabilities of the annunciator.
Communication with the host Fire Alarm Control Panel is established via an EIA-485 multi-drop loop, which simplifies wiring and reduces installation costs. This serial interface allows for efficient data exchange between the annunciators and the main panel. The ACS system can support up to 32 remote annunciators, each with a capacity of 96 points, for a total system capacity of 3072 points, depending on the FACP's capabilities. The NCA (Network Control Annunciator) can utilize the full 96 points.
The ACS modules are designed for user-friendly operation and configuration. The ACM-24AT provides 24 annunciation and control points, each with a red, green, or yellow Alarm/Circuit On LED, a yellow Trouble LED, and a touch-key switch. Each LED point on the ACM-24AT is individually color-programmable, offering granular control over visual indicators. The ACM-48A, on the other hand, provides 48 annunciation points per module, each with a red, green, or yellow Alarm/Circuit On LED, and its columns of 24 LED points can be color-configured using a DIP switch.
Both the ACM-24AT and ACM-48A include a System Trouble LED indicator and an On-Line/Power LED indicator for quick system status checks. They also feature a local piezo sounder with a silence/acknowledge switch, providing audible indication for alarm and trouble conditions. New conditions trigger an alarm and trouble resound with a flash, ensuring that operators are promptly alerted.
The modules are compatible with existing annunciators, allowing for seamless integration into existing Notifier systems. Color-programmable LEDs enhance visual clarity and allow for customized status indications. On-board end-of-line resistors can be enabled or disabled via a switch, simplifying wiring and configuration.
For remote annunciation, the modules can be mounted in specialized ABF or ABS boxes. Control switch key locks (AKS-1/-1B) and phone jacks (APJ-1/-1B) are available for enhanced security and communication. The system can be powered by 24 VDC from the main panel or by remote power supplies, offering flexibility in installation. An efficient switched-power converter reduces power consumption, contributing to energy efficiency.
The ACS Series annunciators are designed with ease of installation and maintenance in mind. All field-wiring terminations use removable, compression-type terminal blocks, which simplifies wiring, circuit testing, and future servicing. This plug-in terminal block design allows for quick and secure connections.
The modules feature microprocessor-controlled electronics that are fully supervised, ensuring reliable operation and early detection of potential issues. Slip-in custom labels, which can be lettered with a standard typewriter or using the LabelEase program, allow for clear identification of each point, simplifying troubleshooting and operation.
For systems requiring remote power, a trouble monitor option is available for remote power supplies, providing supervision of external power sources. Retrofitting ACS Series annunciators into existing systems is straightforward, though software upgrades may be necessary. For AM2020 or AFP1010 panels, a SIB-2048(A)/SIB-NET Serial Interface Board is required for compatibility.
The modular hardware assemblies allow for custom configuration of the annunciator panel to fit individual job requirements. Standard backboxes and mounting hardware schemes, including special remote cabinets, enable the annunciators to be constructed and configured alongside other Notifier system components, streamlining installation and maintenance within a unified system. The various backbox options (ABS-1B, ABS-1TB, ABS-2B, ABF-1B, ABF-2B, ABF-4B, ABF-1DB, ABF-2DB, ABS-4D) provide flexibility for surface or flush mounting and accommodate different numbers of modules, ensuring a suitable enclosure for every application. The BMP-1 Annunciator Blank Module is available to cover unused module positions, maintaining a clean and professional appearance.
