P. 3 of 3
Britax Advocate (2013)
LATCH: Two separate lower LATCH straps are attached to metal bars
located on sides of seat. For rear-facing installation, recline seat to
position 3. Slide straps toward front of seat. For forward-facing
installation, recline seat to positions 1 or 2. Slide straps toward rear of
seat. Discontinue use of LATCH when child is over 40 lbs. Lower
LATCH bars may be used in center seating position when
position is designated as a LATCH location in vehicle owner's
manual or when distance between bars is between 11 and 20
inches and vehicle manufacturer permits their use (refer to
LATCH manual).
Tether: Yes, for forward- and rear-facing use. Store tether in
pouch at top of seat when not in use. Seat has a rip-stitch
tether. A loop of webbing is sewn with colored stitching into
each end of tether; if the stitching is broken and loops pulled
through backside of restraint (diagram 8), discontinue use of restraint.
Rear-facing use: Tether may be used to help stability of installation
(diagram 9). To anchor, loop tether connector strap provided (diagram 10)
around a fixed vehicle belt anchor or vehicle seat leg and attach tether hook
to metal D-ring. These anchor locations do not need to be designated as
tether anchors by vehicle manufacturer. Do not attach connector strap to
any location where it will be disturbed if front seat passenger slides vehicle
seat forward or back. Test by adjusting vehicle seat as far as possible in
both directions after installation. Tether strap may also be routed toward
back of vehicle and attached to tether anchor (diagram 9, a). Do not over
tighten tether.
Forward-facing use: Tether must be attached to vehicle
manufacturer’s specified tether anchor point. Do not use tether connector strap.
Other: Britax prefers use of lock-offs over seat belt since this does not require caregivers to
understand the latchplate and retractor combination in the vehicle.
Do not carry the seat by its adjuster strap or harness, as the adjuster and/or the webbing
could be damaged.
Infant insert/body pillow (diagram 11) must be used in rear-facing mode when child
weighs 22 lbs. or less. Discontinue use when child weighs more than 22 lbs. Do not use in
forward-facing mode, regardless of child’s weight.
Restraint expires seven years from date of manufacture.
Important: This information sheet is not a substitute for complete manufacturer’s directions and current recall list.
