Problem
I'm getting strange symbols, incorrect fonts, etc., when I try to print a
document.
Solutions
1.
Check to be sure that the printer driver you have selected in
your software matches the printer emulation.
2.
Press
SHIFT
and
SEL
keys, then press
GROUP
key.
This will print a line showing the emulation you have selected.
3.
If you have embedded any printer commands in your software,
check to be sure that you entered them correctly.
Problem
Ink smears on the paper when I print narrow columns.
Solution
This may be caused by excessive printhead travel from the centering
position. Enter the Menu and set the Centering Position to
MODE 1
.

For the wide-carriage printer, if MODE 1 doesn't work, try setting the
Centering Position to
MODE 2
.
Problem
I've installed a new ribbon and the printing is smeared and streaked.
Solution
The ribbon shield (1) is either loose or missing.
Remove the ribbon cartridge and check the ribbon shield.
l If it is loose, secure it.
l If it is missing, find it and install it.
