Overview

The Omron E8Y is a "Cube" type differential pressure sensor with an LED display, designed for high-precision sensing in various applications. Its compact-cube style, measuring 31 (1.22) x 30 (1.18) x 30 (1.18) mm, saves mounting space, making it suitable for installations where space is a premium. The sensor features easy-to-read red LEDs for clear indication of measured values and settings. It offers both digital and analog output options, enhancing its versatility for integration into different control systems. The device is UL and CE approved, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. Flow sensing types are also available, catering to specific application needs. For specialized requirements, PNP output types and PSI or inch/H2O measurement units are available upon special request.

Function Description:

The E8Y sensor measures differential pressure and, in its flow sensor variant, measures flow rates. It provides two independent NPN open collector digital outputs (NO/NC) and an analog output of 4 to 20 mA. The digital outputs can be configured in either hysteresis mode or window mode, automatically determined by the ON and OFF point set values. In hysteresis mode, if the ON point set value is greater than the OFF point set value, it operates as normal open; if the ON point set value is less than the OFF point set value, it operates as normal close. In window mode, if the ON point set value is less than the OFF point set value, it operates as normal open; if the ON point set value is greater than the OFF point set value, it operates as normal close.

The sensor includes an auto-teaching function, allowing for easy setup of ON and OFF points without manual key inputs. This function supports both 1-point auto-teaching (window mode) and 2-point auto-teaching (hysteresis mode). In 2-point auto-teaching, the ON and OFF points are automatically set by designating a point with no object (TEACH 1) and a point with an object (TEACH 2), with the hysteresis being a set value. In 1-point auto-teaching, the ON and OFF points are set at the reference point ± window width.

The E8Y features a 3-digit red LED display for numerical values and menu indications, along with orange LED indicators for OUT 1 and OUT 2, which light up when the respective output is on in measurement mode or flash in setting mode. A "Unit" indicator shows the currently used measuring unit (mmH2O or kPa for pressure sensors, L/min or gal/min for flow sensors).

Operation keys include:

  • ADJ: Adjusts the Zero Point in measurement mode and shifts to measurement mode in setting mode.
  • MODE: Selects the current number setting or menu option.
  • UP/DOWN: Displays ON/OFF points of OUT 1 (DOWN key) or OUT 2 (UP key) in measurement mode, and increases/decreases numeric values or scrolls through menu options in setting mode.

    • Er.o with flashing OUT LED: Short-circuit protection and display (overcurrent in connected load).
    • Flashing displayed value: Abnormal pressure or flow detection (applied value exceeds rated value by 10%). This error resets automatically when the value returns to the rated range.
    • Er.5: ON/OFF point input error warning (difference between ON and OFF points in window mode exceeds hysteresis value + setting resolution).
  • Robust construction: Heat-resistant PBT case and zinc die-cast pressure port (for Rc(PT) 1/8 type) ensure durability.
  • Circuit protection: Includes reverse polarity connection and load short-circuiting to prevent damage.

Precautions for Correct Use:

  • Use within rated pressure.
  • Do not mix up connecting +, - signs of pressure port.
  • Do not pull the cable more than 50 N (5.1 kgf).
  • Filter the gas with an appropriate air filter to ensure it is free of moisture or oil.
  • When not using linear and/or ON/OFF outputs, cut the output lead wire and cover the tip with an insulation tube to prevent wrong connections.
  • Avoid use in environments with explosive, ignitable, or other harmful gases.
  • Do not exceed rated supply voltage or use under AC power supply.
  • Do not mix up DC pole's wiring.
  • Not suitable for use with corrosive or flammable gases.
  • Avoid setting up beside high voltage or power lines.
  • Do not expose to water.
  • Do not subject the product to ultrasonic vibration.
