Overview

The PACE model MBT360 is a digital soldering/desoldering rework system designed for continuous use with up to three handpieces, combining the reliability of SensaTemp technology with the speed of AccuDrive. It is suitable for a wide range of applications, from high thermal mass tasks to delicate micro-soldering and high-volume work.

Function Description:

The MBT360 system provides precise temperature control for soldering and desoldering operations. It features two AccuDrive power ports and one SensaTemp power port, allowing for simultaneous use of various handpieces. The integrated dual-purpose vacuum/pressure pump system, utilizing PACE's patented SNAP-VAC Technology, delivers high vacuum for desoldering and precise air pressure for air pencils. The system's SensaTemp technology is known for temperature stability in high thermal mass applications, while AccuDrive technology offers fast response times for high-volume, fast-paced environments.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power Requirements:

    • Weight: 6 Kg. (13 Lbs.).
    • Vacuum Rise Time: Less than 200 milliseconds to pull 254mm/Hg (10 in/Hg) vacuum on a 33 cubic centimeter (2 cubic inch) reservoir.
    • Vacuum: 880mbar (26 in. Hg.) Nominal.
    • Pressure: 28 KPa (4 P.S.I.) Nominal MAXIMUM setting.
    • Air Flow: 9 SLPM (0.32 SCFM) MAXIMUM.
  • Temperature Specifications:
    • Tip Temperature Range: 38-482 °C (100-900 °F) for SensaTemp; 177-454 °C (350-850 °F) for AccuDrive.
    • Digital Readout Resolution: ±1° (°C or °F).
    • Tip Temperature Stability: ±1.1°C (2°F) at Idle from Set Tip Temperature.
    • Temperature Accuracy: Meets or exceeds ANSI JSTD 001.
  • EOS/ESD Specifications:

    • Storage Temperature: -40°C to 100°C (-40°F to 212°F).

Usage Features:

The MBT360 features a user-friendly control panel with a Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) providing temperature information for all three channels. A PROGRAM KEY is used to accept settings and scroll through system channels, while SCROLL UP and SCROLL DOWN keys adjust temperature and navigate menu options. Tri-colored LEDs (Green, Amber, Red) indicate handpiece connectivity and status.

Compatible handpieces include:

  • AccuDrive:
    • TD-200 handpiece: Responsive soldering iron using tip-heater cartridges.
    • MT-200 handpiece: Tip heater cartridge tweezers for SMD removal.
  • SensaTemp:
    • PS-90 Soldering Iron: For SMD and thru-hole installation/removal, offering high thermal performance.
    • SX-100 Sodr-X-Tractor: Air handpiece for thru-hole desoldering on high-mass multilayer boards.
    • TT-65 ThermoTweez handpiece: For removal of PLCC, LCCC, and other surface mount devices.
    • TJ-70 Thermo Jet handpiece: Finger switch activated precision air pencil for SMD installation/removal.

The system includes a PRESSURE ADJUSTMENT knob for airflow delivery and quick-connect ports for pressure (ThermoJet) and vacuum (Sodr-X-Tractor, ThermoPik). An optional foot pedal can activate vacuum or pressure.

Customization and Set-Up:

The MBT360 offers extensive customization through its Set-Up Mode, accessible by holding the PROGRAM KEY while powering on. Features include:

  • Password Protection: Prevents unauthorized alteration of system parameters.
  • Temperature Scale: Selectable between °F and °C.

  • SetBack Reset: Allows individual or all channels to exit SetBack mode.
  • AutoOff: Turns off power to handpieces after a predetermined time in SetBack (10-90 minutes, default 60 minutes). Can be disabled.
  • SetBack Temperature: Adjustable temperature for SetBack mode (150°C/300°F to 230°C/450°F, default 177°C/350°F).
  • Temperature Match Offset Control Mode: Allows for calibration and offset adjustments for AccuDrive (channels 1 & 2) and SensaTemp (channel 3) handpieces. Different modes (OS Mode 1, 2, 3) determine how offsets are handled when handpieces or tips are removed.
  • LCD Contrast and LED Backlight: Adjustable for optimal visibility.

Instant SetBack Tool Stand Connection:

Optional Instant SetBack (ISB) cubbies can be connected to channels 1 and 2. Placing a handpiece into an ISB cubby activates Temperature Setback Mode after 30 seconds, and lifting it resumes normal operation.
