Optional connections
≥Before connection, turn off all equipment and read the appropriate
operating instructions.
≥The equipment connections described are examples.
≥Peripheral equipment and optional cables sold separately unless
otherwise indicated.
If your digital receiver has an OPTICAL OUT terminal you can
connect with this unit’s OPTICAL IN terminal to enjoy digital audio
including multi-channel Dolby Digital. Refer to your digital receiver’s
operating instructions for details.
[Note]
You cannot record digital audio received using the optical
connection. Make certain to also connect to the AV2 Scart terminals
when using the OPTICAL IN terminal connection.
Preparation
Press [HDD] or [DVD] to select “HDD” or “DVD” as the source.

Press [HDD/DVD INPUT] to select “A2”.
You can select the input channel by pressing [W X CH].
2 Press [SHIFT]i[AV2/OPT] to select
audio input.
A2 ANALOG (factory preset): Audio input into the AV2 Scart
f terminal is output to the
v speakers.
A2 OPT: Audio input into the OPTICAL IN terminal is
output to the speakers.
∫ Audio reception setting
While “A2 OPT” is displayed on the unit’s display
Press and hold [SHIFT]r[AV2/OPT].
A2 AUTO (factory preset):When receiving Dolby Digital and PCM

You can change the audio mode.
Press [SHIFT]i[AUDIO].

You cannot use Dolby Pro Logic II or Down-mix function.
∫ Dynamic range compression
You can change this setting to listen to Dolby Digital sound at low
volume (such as late at night) and maintain audio clarity. It reduces
the peak level in loud scenes without affecting the sound field.
Press and hold [SHIFT]i[AUDIO] for
about 2 seconds.
A. DR COMP OFF (factory preset): The original dynamic range.

l DR COMP STD: The level recommended for household viewing.
l;
a- DR COMP MAX: The maximum allowable compression
(recommended for night viewing).
∫ Recording audio from discs or television
broadcasts to a tape deck
1 Discs: Press [HDD] or [DVD] to select “HDD” or “DVD” as the source.
Television broadcasts: Press [W X CH] to select the channel.
2 Start recording and play.
Refer to the manual of the other unit for details.
∫ To playback audio from a tape deck, etc.,
through this unit’s speakers
1 Press [HDD] or [DVD] to select “HDD” or “DVD” as the source.
2 Press [HDD/DVD INPUT] to select “A4”.
3 Start play.
1 Press [AUX] to select “AUX” as the source.
2 Turn on the television and select the channel.
3 Adjust the volume on this unit.
