cooling

amplifier
internal
heat
sinks
could
reach
unsafe
operating
temperatures.
When
this
occurs,
then
the
thermal
logic
eystem
will
shut
down
the
unsafe
channel,
causing
ihe
hightemperalureLEDtoljghlandlhe‘'0”LEDto
gooulonthat
channel.
SincetheCS-900
isaredundantamplifier,
the
shutdown
ofonechannelwill
notaffectthe
operation
ofthe
other
channel.
Aftertheunsafechannel
cools
down
tosafe
limits,
operation
will
be
restored
in
that
channel.
Normal
operation
will
be
indicated
by
the
high
temperature
LED
off
and
the
"O
LED
on.
Continued
operation
under
fault
conditions
will
In
noway
harm
theampilfier.
but
because
of
the
nuisance
factor,
steps
should
betakento
determine
the
problem
and
sofveit.
Because
of
the
very
efficient
design
of
the
CS-000
dissipation
system,
thermal
shutdown
conditions
will
almost
never
occur
unless
the
re
is
truly
an
external
fault.
For
continuous
operatron,
the
CS-900
requires
a
source
of
cool
air.
As
an
adoeo
help
In
locating
mismatched
or
shorted
speakers,
the
DDT
active
LED
is
a
powerful
tool.
Ifthis
LED
flashes
continuously
at
relatively
low
output
power
levels
(Indicated
by
low
power
readings
on
the
LED
array),
it
is
almost
a
sure
sign
that
the
amplifier
loading
is
too
low
in
value
or
that
there
might
be
a
short.
Remember,
usually
the
power
LED
array
should
reach
100%
indication
before
the
DDT
system
Is
activated
on
any
particular
charnel.
TheCS-900also
has
a
fail-safe
thermal
mechanism
built
Into
the
unit.
If
either
channel
thermal
logic
system
should
fail
to
causethermal
shuldowninlhatchannelorlfthefanllselfshouldfali,
then
this
fail-safesystem
will
shut
down
the
entire
amplifier,
just
as
If
you
had
turned
off
the
power
switch.
This
is
just
on©
more
protection
that
Peavey
has
incorporated
into
this
unique
amplifier
as
a
backup
system.
It

should
ever
occur,

POWER
SWITCH

The
front
panel
of
the
CS-900
contains
a
conventional
type
on/off
rocker
switch.
When
the
amplifier
is
plugged
mto
a
suitable
power
source,
activating
this
switch
should
light
both
channerO"
array
LED's
afterthe
power-up
delay
sequence
is
completed
(approximately
two
seconds).
You
shouldalso
be
able
to
heartheoutpul
relays
close
(dick).
If
theamplifier
is
cool,
the
fan
should
start
on
low
speed
operation.
If
only
one
channel
"0"
indicator
lights,
then
the
possibility
exists
that
the
mains
fuse
on
the
other
channel
has
blown.
If
neither
channer‘0’'
indicator
lights,
Ihencheck
the
mam
powersource.
It’salways
a
good
idea
to
check
toseethatthe
fan
is
operational,
especially
on
a
new
unit.
The
possibilityexiststhat
due
to
shipping
and
handling,
the
fan
bearings
might
be
tootight
to
allow
low
speed
fan
operation.
If
this
Is
the
case,
Immediately
seek
professional
help.
The
CS-900
must
have
normal
fan
operation
to
provide
adequate
cooling
for
the
unit
Without
airflow,
the
amplifier
will
“thermal”
very
quickly
under
any
signal
conditions.
BACK
PANEL
The
back
panel
of
the
CS-900
contains
a
'back
porch’
design
which
contains
the
various
input
and
output
connectors
for
each
channel.
Also
Included
Is
the
patch
panel
to
provide
the
user
with
a
very
flexible
system
to
facilitate
the
use
of
balanced
input
transformers
and
dual
crossover
networks.
These
features
are
undu
plicated
In
any
other
stereo
power
amp
on
the
market
today.
The
back
panel
also
includes
Ihe
fan
opening
with
protective
grille
(6)
where
cooling
air
is
drawn
Into
Ihe
amplifier.
This
opening
should
never
be
blocked
or
restricted.
FUSES
(8)
The
CS-900
is
fused
with
a
standard
15
amp,
125
VAC
fuse.
Always
replace
with
the
same
type
and
rating.
Failure
to
do
this
could
void
the
warranty
on
the
CS-900.
MODE
SWITCH
(16)
The
mode
switch
is
located
on
the
“back
porch'nextto
the
channel
(nputjacks.This
switch
converts
the
CS-900
from
normal
stereo
mode
to
bridge
mode.
Unlesstheamplifier
Is
to
beused
In
a
commercial
sound
distribution
system
(70/100
volt
Unes),tfie
bridge
modeshould
not
be
used.
In
certain
crossover
applications,
accidental
switching
to
the
bridge
mode
could
destroy
the
speaker
system.
Applications
of
the
bridge
mode
will
be
covered
later
in
this
manual.
