The Peavey IPA 300T is a high-performance utility amplifier designed for demanding fixed installation and PA applications. It features a robust design with a convenient patch panel layout and state-of-the-art circuitry, ensuring reliable, long-term, and trouble-free operation. The amplifier is packaged for standard 19-inch rack-mount capability, occupying 5.25 inches of vertical rack space.
Function Description:
The IPA 300T serves as a power amplifier, capable of delivering 300 Watts RMS into 4 ohms. It offers versatile output options, including 25-volt and 70-volt fully isolated line output capabilities, making it suitable for various speaker distribution systems. The amplifier also provides a balanced, transformer-isolated line level output for direct connection to "music on hold" systems or booster power amplifiers.
Important Technical Specifications:
- Power Output: 300 Watts RMS into 4 ohms.
- Transformer Output (Fully Isolated): 300 Watts RMS into 16 ohms (70V) / 2 ohms (25V).
- Distortion: 0.1% THD at rated power.
- Frequency Response Direct Output: +0/-1 dB from 40 Hz to 20 kHz.
- Hum & Noise: Greater than 95 dB below rated power.
- Input Sensitivity: 1.0V RMS.
- Subsonic Filter: Provides an 18 dB per octave roll-off of low frequencies with a 3 dB point at 42 Hz.
- Power Requirements: Operates from standard 120 volts AC, 60 Hz power.
- Dimensions: 19 inches wide, 5.25 inches high, and 13 inches deep (including external handles).
Usage Features:
- Controls and Indicators:
- Level Control (1): Adjusts the overall volume level of the system.
- Subsonic Filter Switch (2): Activates an 18 dB/octave subsonic filter at 42 Hz when in the "in" position, removing low frequencies from the system. The "out" position bypasses the filter.
- SPS Compression Enable/Defeat Switch (3): Defeats SPS compression when in the "in" position. SPS should generally be enabled to protect speakers.
- SPS Active LED (4): Illuminates when SPS compression is engaged.
- Power On LED (5): Indicates when AC power is supplied to the unit.
- Power Switch (6): Turns the unit on or off.
- Input Options:
- RCA Input Jack (9): Paralleled with other inputs.
- 1/4" Input Jack (10): Allows balanced operation (TRS) and can also be used as an unbalanced input with a mono (tip-sleeve) 1/4" plug.
- Balanced Input (XLR) (11): Allows balanced operation with XLR connection, paralleled with other inputs.
- Line Inputs (12): Barrier strip terminals configured for balanced or unbalanced signals.
- External Master Volume (13): Barrier strip terminals for connecting an external volume control. For full external control, the front panel "level" control must be set to maximum.
- Output Options (8):
- 4 ohm screw terminal direct output: For direct connection to a 4 ohm speaker system (requires jumper removal between 4Ω and XFMR terminals).
- 8 ohm balanced output: For 8 ohm speaker systems (requires jumper between 4Ω and XFMR terminals).
- 70 volt balanced output: For constant voltage speaker distribution systems.
- 25 volt balanced output: For constant voltage speaker distribution systems.
- 1V/600 ohm balanced output: For connecting to "music on hold" systems, booster amplifiers, etc., delivering 1V RMS into a 600 ohm load.
- AC Convenience Outlet: Provides an additional AC power source.
Maintenance Features:
- Fuse (7): The fuse is located within the cap of the fuseholder. If it fails, it must be replaced with the same type and value to prevent damage and voiding the warranty. Repeated fuse blowing indicates a need for qualified service. The power cord must be disconnected before replacing the fuse.
- Cleaning: Metal parts can be cleaned with a damp rag. Vinyl coverings can be cleaned with a damp rag or an ammonia-based household cleaner. The unit must be disconnected from the power supply before cleaning.
- Servicing: The unit contains no user-serviceable parts inside. All service work should be performed by qualified service personnel. Do not attempt to service the equipment yourself.
- Installation: For safety, the unit incorporates a 3-wire line (mains) cable with proper grounding facilities. It is not advisable to remove the ground pin. If proper grounding facilities are unavailable, suitable grounding adaptors should be used to reduce noise and shock hazard.
- Safety Warnings:
- Do not install or connect units while powered on to prevent electrical shock.
- Do not expose the appliance to rain or moisture.
- Avoid placing the unit near heat sources or in a way that obstructs ventilation.
- Handle power supply cords carefully and check for damage periodically.
- Disconnect the power supply cord when the unit is unused for long periods.
- Provide rear support if rack-mounting the unit.
- Prevent objects from falling into or liquids from spilling into the unit.
- Avoid exposure to extremely high noise levels to prevent permanent hearing loss. Hearing protectors are recommended when operating the amplification system at high sound pressure levels.
