What does Er1 error code mean on Pit Boss Smokers?
    • M
      Mark AllenAug 22, 2025
If your Pit Boss smoker displays an "Er1" error code, it indicates that the temperature probe wire is not making a connection. To fix this, access the electrical components on the base of the unit (see Electric Wire Diagram) and check for any damage to the Temperature Probe wires. Ensure the Temperature Probe spade connectors are firmly connected, and connected correctly, to the Control Board.

If your Pit Boss smoker displays a "noP" error code, it could be due to several reasons related to the meat probe. First, disconnect the meat probe from the connection port on the Control Board and reconnect it, ensuring the adapter is firmly connected and checking for damage. If the issue persists, inspect the meat probe wires for damage. If the problem continues, the Control Board may be faulty and needs to be replaced.

What to do if the temperature is flashing on my Pit Boss Smokers LED screen?
    • S
      Sherry PorterAug 27, 2025
If the LED screen on your Pit Boss smoker is flashing temperature, it indicates that the grill temperature is below 65°C /150°F, posing a risk that the fire could go out. To resolve this, check the hopper for sufficient fuel and inspect the feed system for obstructions. Remove pellets and follow the Care and Maintenance instructions. Also, inspect the grill temperature probe, cleaning it if dirty according to the Care and Maintenance instructions. Ensure the burn pot is free of ash build-up or obstructions, following the Care and Maintenance instructions. Verify the fan is working correctly and the air intake is not blocked, cleaning it if necessary. Finally, check the auger motor to confirm it's rotating and that there's no blockage in the auger tube.

How to fix no power lights on Pit Boss Smokers control board?
    • J
      Jacqueline BakerSep 2, 2025
If there are no power lights on the control board of your Pit Boss smoker, first press the Power Button, holding it for two seconds to ensure a solid connection. Then, make sure the smoker is plugged into a working power source and reset the breaker if necessary. Ensure the GFCI is a minimum 10 Amp service. Also, check that all wire connections are firmly connected and dry. If the issue persists, remove cooking components, turn the unit on its side, and remove the screws on the rear of the Control Board to check the fuse for breaks or blackening, replacing it if needed. What to do if the fire in burn pot will not light in Pit Boss Smokers?
    • T
      Tim BrownSep 4, 2025
If the burn pot in your Pit Boss smoker won't light, it could be because the auger isn't primed, preventing pellets from filling the burn pot. Follow the Hopper Priming Procedure to prime the auger. If that's not the issue, the auger motor may be jammed. Turn the unit on, set the Temperature Control Dial to SMOKE, and check if the auger is dropping pellets into the burn pot. If it's not operating properly, contact Customer Service. Another possibility is igniter failure. With the unit on and set to SMOKE, inspect the igniter, confirming it's working by feeling for heat above the burn pot and that it protrudes about 13mm / 0.5 inches into the burn pot. If it's not working, follow the Manual Start-up Procedure.

How to prevent flare ups on Pit Boss 77550?
    • S
      sarah65Sep 7, 2025
If your Pit Boss smoker is experiencing frequent flare-ups, it could be due to the cooking temperature being too high. Try cooking at a lower temperature, keeping it under 176°C / 350°F when cooking greasy foods, as grease has a flash point. Additionally, grease build-up on cooking components can cause flare-ups, so follow the Care and Maintenance instructions to address this.

Why does my Pit Boss 77550 thermometer show temperature when off?
    • T
      Terry MorganSep 12, 2025
If your Pit Boss smoker's thermometer shows a temperature when the unit is off, it means the smoker has a high ambient temperature or is in direct sunlight. This will not harm the smoker. The internal temperature of the main cabinet has ambiently reached or exceeded 54°C / 130°F. Move the smoker into a shaded area and prop the cabinet door open to reduce the internal temperature.
