  If your Power Portable Generator engine won't start, starts and runs rough, or shuts down, first ensure the engine switch is in the ON position and the fuel valve is also in the ON position. Check the oil level and fill the crankcase to the proper level. Clean or replace the air filter if it's dirty. Make sure the fuel tank is filled with fresh fuel, and drain the tank and carburetor if the fuel is stale or contains water. Ensure the spark plug wire is connected, and replace the spark plug if it's bad. If the engine is flooded, wait 5 minutes before re-cranking. Clean or replace the fuel filter if it is clogged or dirty. Clean or replace the spark arrester screen if it is clogged or dirty.
