Overview

The Prestige APSRS RF Upgrade Kit, designed for models PE1BZ and PE1BZLR, is a comprehensive security and convenience system for vehicles, offering remote control functionalities for locking, unlocking, arming, disarming, and remote starting. This system aims to enhance vehicle security and user convenience through a variety of programmable and user-selectable features.

Function Description

The core function of the system revolves around its remote control capabilities. Users can lock and unlock vehicle doors, arm and disarm the security system, and remotely start or shut down their vehicle. The system provides visual and audible feedback for these actions through parking light flashes and siren/horn chirps, as well as an LED status indicator.

For security, the system includes features like starter disable when armed and a passive arming countdown. It also offers a "Silent Choice" option, allowing users to suppress audible arming/disarming responses with a single press, requiring a second press for an audible confirmation. The system can be manually overridden in case of a lost or dead transmitter, providing a failsafe to operate the vehicle.

The remote vehicle starter function allows users to start their vehicle remotely, preheating or precooling the interior to a desired temperature set before exiting the vehicle. This feature incorporates several safety mechanisms, such as preventing remote start if the hood is open, the brake pedal is pressed, the engine is over-revved, or if the system is in Valet Mode. For manual transmission vehicles, a specific "Remote Start Ready Mode" must be engaged to ensure the vehicle is safely prepared for remote start.

Additional convenience features include a "Quick-Stop" mode, which allows the engine to remain running for short stops while the vehicle is secured and the keys are removed. An optional "Turbo Timer Mode" is also available, designed for vehicles with turbochargers, allowing the engine to run for a pre-programmed duration after the ignition is turned off to properly cool the turbo.

The system also provides diagnostic feedback through its LED status indicator, parking light flashes, and siren/horn chirps. These indicators communicate various states, such as armed/disarmed status, trigger zones (shock sensor, trunk/hood, door), Valet Mode activation, and remote start shutdown diagnostics, helping users understand the system's current status or troubleshoot issues.

Usage Features

The system is operated primarily through a one-button remote control.

  • Locking/Arming: A single press of the button locks the doors and arms the security system. If Silent Choice is enabled, a second press will activate an audible arming response. The parking lights flash once, and the LED blinks once per second.
  • Unlocking/Disarming: Two presses of the button unlock the doors and disarm the security system. The parking lights flash once. If Silent Choice is enabled and 2-step unlock is set, a third press will activate an audible disarming response.
  • Remote Starting: Press and hold the button for 3 seconds to activate the remote start. The system will sound, parking lights flash once, and the vehicle will attempt to start. If it stalls, it will retry up to two more times.
  • Remote Start Shutdown: Press and hold the button for 3 seconds again to turn the vehicle off.
  • Entering Vehicle (Remote Start Active): Unlock doors, enter the vehicle (do not press the brake pedal), insert the key into the ignition and turn to ON or RUN, then press the brake pedal to disengage remote start.
  • User Selectable Notification Chirps: To toggle ARM/DISARM chirps ON/OFF, turn the ignition ON then OFF, then press and release the valet/programming button 3 times. One chirp indicates ON, two chirps indicate OFF.
  • User Selectable LED: To toggle the LED ON/OFF when armed/locked, turn the ignition ON, OFF, ON, OFF, then press and hold the valet/programming button for 5 seconds. One flash indicates ON, two flashes indicate OFF.
  • Valet Mode: To enter/exit Valet Mode (disables security and remote start, LED lights solid), turn the ignition ON, then push and hold the programming/valet button. Release the button when the LED turns solid.
  • Manual Override: If the transmitter is lost or its battery fails, open the vehicle door (alarm will sound), turn the ignition key to ON, and within 10 seconds, press and release the valet push button switch. The alarm will stop, and the system will enter by-passed mode.
  • Remote Start Ready Mode (Manual Transmission):
    1. With the engine running via ignition key, place the transmission in neutral and set the parking brake.
    2. With your foot off the brake pedal, press and hold the button to activate remote start (remote beeps 4 times, parking lights turn on).
    3. Remove keys from ignition (vehicle remains running).
    4. Exit vehicle and close all doors.
    5. Within 1 minute of step 1, press the button once to lock doors. The vehicle will shut down and sound 2 short chirps then 1 long chirp to confirm ready mode is set.
  • Entering/Exiting Vehicle (Ready Mode Active): Activate remote start, open door, retrieve items, exit and close doors, press the button. The unit waits 3 seconds, shuts down, verifies doors are closed, and emits 2 short/1 long tone and light flash pattern.
  • Cancelling Remote Start Ready Mode: Ready mode is cancelled if any door, hood, or trunk is opened, the brake pedal is pressed, the parking brake is released, or the ignition is turned ON.
  • Quick-Stop Feature: Stop vehicle, place in PARK. With foot off brake, press and hold the button twice within 2 seconds (LED flashes 3 times). Remove keys and exit. Press the button to lock doors if desired.
  • Turbo Timer Feature: With vehicle running via ignition key and foot off brake, engage parking brake (parking lights turn on). Turn ignition key OFF (vehicle continues to run for pre-programmed time). To disengage, press the brake pedal.

Maintenance Features

  • Replacing Remote Control Batteries: For the 1-button remote control (Model 181BP/181SP), the CR2032 battery typically lasts about 1 year. Reduced range or a dim LED indicates a weak battery. To replace:
    1. Use a coin to disassemble the remote control halves.
    2. Remove the old battery, noting the +/- symbols, and replace with a new one.
    3. Reassemble the remote control halves.
    4. Test the remote control's operation.
  • Remote Control Programming:
    1. Cycle the vehicle's ignition to ON.
    2. Press and release the valet/programming button 3 times.
    3. Press the button on each transmitter you wish to program. The system will beep to confirm each transmitter.
    4. Turn the ignition OFF. The system supports programming up to 4 transmitters. Programming a 5th transmitter will erase the oldest one in memory.
  • Programmed Transmitter Notification: As a security precaution, each time the vehicle's ignition is turned on, the status LED will flash the number of transmitters programmed into the system. This helps identify unauthorized transmitters. If an unauthorized transmitter is suspected, contact your installing dealer.

The system is designed for ease of use and offers a range of customizable options to suit individual preferences and vehicle requirements. It is important to note that some functions and safety precautions may vary depending on the specific vehicle configuration, and users are advised to consult their installing dealer for detailed information.
