5. Software Upgrades
From time to time software upgrades are made available, in a special download area of the ptf web
site, to improve system features or for bug fixes.
There are two basic steps to installing these updates.
Step 1
The new software must be downloaded onto a local computer from the ptf web site. There is a link on
the instrument web-browser home page that will take the user to the appropriate location for
reviewing available upgrades.
Step 2
The newly downloaded software must be transferred to the instrument from the local computer using
TFTP protocol. If you do not have TFTP protocol installed on your local computer, it can be down
loaded from the ptf web site, see Appendix A.
Important Note.
The ptf 3207A includes a special "Hardware Watchdog Feature" which is designed to reset the
instrument in case of a catastrophic failure. The default is that the watchdog will reset the system after
30 seconds of inactivity.
During software upgrades, there is likely to be no program activity for periods exceeding the watchdog
timeout. Resetting the instrument in the middle of a write to the non-volatile memory could corrupt
the system and render it inoperable, therefore it is important to disable the watchdog prior to
undertaking any software upgrades.
There is a command in the menu "hidden" commands to do this. To disable the watchdog the following
procedure should be used:
Set the Disable Watchdog menu command to 1.
Reset the system - this means that when the system reboots the watchdog will not be started
