100 meters, for example.
Adjust the focus by turning the ring for lens internal focusing (6).
After this adjustment no further dioptre adjustment should be required,
regardless of distance or other factors. Adjust image quality only with
the ring (6) for lens internal focusing.

Rangefinder (available only in XD series)
Thermal imagers Quantum XD are equipped with a stadiametric
rangefinder which allows the user to estimate approximate distance to an
object with known size.
Press and hold down the controller (5) for two seconds to enter the
  menu.
Rotate the controller to select menu option . Press the controller.
Press the controller to select one of the
reference objects, whose sizes are roughly
equal to the size of the actual object under
  measurement:
Reference object “Hare” – height 0.3m
Reference object “Wild hog” – height 0.7m
Reference object “Deer” – height 1.7m
Note: to switch between units of measurements – metres or yards – please
refer to the menu option “Selection of units of measurement”.
To activate the rangefinder, press the controller until you see on the
display: two horizontal lines for measurement, readings of measured
distance and icon of selected reference object (see Pic.).
Locate the lower fixed line under the observed object and, while
rotating the controller, move the upper line relative to the lower fixed line
until the observed object fully fits between the two lines. The distance to
the observed object is automatically recalculated as you move the
  upper line.
If the measurement does not take place within 2-3 seconds,
information disappears from the display. When rotating the controller
  again, distance measuring mode re-activates.
