A17™ Area Light

Function Description: The RAB A17™ Area Light is a high-quality, affordable, well-designed, and energy-efficient LED lighting fixture. It is designed for easy installation by electricians and aims to help end users save energy. The fixture can be mounted on a universal pole or with a slipfitter.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Supply Conductors: Minimum 75°C.
  • Voltage: Universal voltage driver permits operation at 120V through 277V, 50 or 60 Hz. Units with a /480 suffix operate at 480V, 50 or 60Hz.
  • Dimming: 0-10V dimmable wiring.
  • Environment: Suitable for wet locations.
  • Pole Drilling Pattern: Accommodates 3 different hole patterns (Hole A must be used, then choose B, C, or D). Measurements for drilling are provided: 0.625" for holes A, B, C, D; 5 1/2" vertical distance from A to D; 3" from A to B; 2" from B to C; 1" from C to D.

Usage Features:

  • Installation:
    • Universal Pole Mount: Involves removing the arm cover, feeding wires, aligning the arm and fixture, tightening internal screws, and replacing the arm cover. For square pole mounting, a bolster plate is placed inside the pole, the round pole adaptor plate is removed, and the arm is fixed with a bolt. For round pole mounting, the bolster plate is placed inside the pole, and the arm is fixed with a bolt. Wires are pulled into the junction box, and supply wires are connected to the arm according to NEC guidelines. Bolts are used to tighten the fixture to the pole.
    • Slipfitter Mount: The slipfitter is placed over a tenon, and the fixture is secured with set screws. Wires are fed through the fixture and slipfitter, and supply wires from the pole are connected. Wires should be knotted for strain relief.
  • Adjustable Angle: The slipfitter mount allows for a 90° adjustable angle. To adjust, loosen the locking bolt and swivel the fixture to the desired angle, using the slipfitter cover plate graduations as guidelines.
  • Wiring (0-10V Dimmable):
    • Black/brown fixture lead to LINE supply lead.
    • White/blue fixture lead to COMMON supply lead.
    • Green/yellow wire from fixture to supply ground (do NOT connect the GROUND of the dimming fixture to the output).
    • Purple fixture lead to DIM V+ lead.
    • Pink fixture lead to DIM V- lead.
  • Safety: Power must be OFF before installation or maintenance. No user-serviceable parts inside. Do not use an electric generator to test LED fixtures. Proper grounding is required. Installation must comply with the National Electrical Code and local codes.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: Clean the polycarbonate lens with a non-abrasive glass cleaning solution.
  • Restrictions: Do not open the fixture to clean the LED or touch the LED. Do not open or remove the Respirator Plug. Ensure the fixture temperature is cool enough to touch before cleaning or maintenance. Do not clean or maintain while the fixture is energized.

Troubleshooting:

  • Check that the line voltage at the fixture is correct.
  • Verify proper grounding of the fixture.
