Chapter 2: Using Track mode
2.1 Overview
Your SPX-5 Sport system provides a Track mode, to enable you to automatically
follow a route (or track), set on your chartplotter or GPS.
A track is a predefined path through a series of waypoints with each “track leg” being
a straight line between 2 consecutive waypoints.
In Track mode, the SPX-5 Sport system will make any course changes necessary to
keep your boat on the required track, and automatically compensate for tidal streams
and leeway.
Requirements for Track mode
To operate in Track mode, the SPX-5 Sport system must receive route information
from a suitable navigation system, such as:
• A SeaTalk compatible chartplotter or GPS unit.
• An NMEA 0183 or NMEA2000 compatible chartplotter or GPS unit.
•A SeaTalk
ng
compatible chartplotter.
Refer to the SmartPilot X-5 Sport Installation & Commissioning Guide for connection
details.
Starting position and heading
Before entering Track mode, ensure that the boat is as close as possible to the actual
track and course heading (see Track keeping & Cross Track Error on page 15.). When
you enter Track mode, the SPX-5 Sport system will steer the boat onto the required
track.
