STARTER
LUBRICATION
I
CAUTION:
Do
not
clean
the
starter
in
any
degreasing
tank
or
grease
dissolving
solvents.
Avoid
excessivelubrication.
Na
lubrication
is
required
on
the
starting
motor
except
at
the
time of
overhaul.
Bushings
and
armature
shaft
should
be
coated
with
a
small
amount
of
Delco-Remy
Lubricant No.1960954.

TROUBLESHOOTING

STARTER
BRUSHES
The
starter
brushes
should
slide
freely
in the
holders and make full
contact
on
the commutator.
The brushes
should
be
replaced
when
they
have
worn
to
3/8
in.
length.
Proper
brush
spring
tension
with
new
brushes installed
is
24
ounces.
This
tension
is
measured
with
a
scale
hooked
under
the
brush
spring
near
the brush
and the
reading
taken
just
as
the
spring
leaves
the
brush.
