Volvo IPS-Rwplacing Sacrifi cial Anodes
1. Close the engine seacock.
2. Drain the seawater as noted in draining the seawater
system.
3. Remove the sacrifi cial anodes in the heat exchanger and
the intercooler with a socket and ratchet.
4. Check each anode. If 50% or less than their original size
they must be replaced. Clean the anodes with sandpaper
only to remove the layer of oxide before reinstalling the
anodes.
Note: Use sandpaper only to clean anodes. The use of any
steel tools reduces the effectiveness of the anode.
5. Reinstall the anodes.
6. Close the drain nipples.
7. Open the engine seacock before starting the engine.
8. Check for leaks.

CLOSE ENGINE SEACOCK
BEFORE ATTEMPTING MAINTENANCE
ON THE ANODE SYSTEM.
