Volvo IPS- Bleeding Fuel System
The fuel system must be bled after changing the fuel
lter, running out of fuel or picking up water in the fuel
system.
Make sure the fuel valve on the inlet side of the pre- lter
is turned to the “ON” position.
1. Remove the protective Attach a clear hose to the air vent
valve (1) Let the hose drain in a container that can be later
disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner.
2. Open the air vent valve and pump fuel using the hand
pump (2) until the fuel running thru the clear hose is free
from air bubbles. This procedure may take awhile to purge
the air completely from the system.
3. Pump the hand pump another 10 strokes. There may
be a high degree of resistance in the hand pump but this
is normal and necessary for bleeding the system.
4. Remove the hose and reinstall the cap on the air vent
valve.
Volvo IPS- Draining The Fuel Filter Due To Water In Fuel
If the alarm display on the helm shows the gasoline pump
a sensor is picking up “water in fuel”. Normally this
indicates there is excessive water in the separator lter.
Use the following steps to eliminate this problem:
1. Stop the engine and remove the key from the ignition
switch.
2. Remove the cable harness from the water separator.
3. Place the proper container under the fuel lter and
turn the water separator counter clockwise to remove the
water. After the water is dranined, turn the water separator
clockwise to tighten it up against the lter bottom
Then screw the water separator an additional 1/4 to 1/2
turns clockwise.
4. Fasten the cable to the water separator.
