Tandem Feed Tray
Overview
Two paper stacks in
one tray
Paper feeds from the
right tray
When the paper in the
right tray runs out, the
stack in the left tray is
moved across to the
right tray
After that, paper feed
resumes
The left tray can be
pulled out and paper
can be added to it
without interrupting
copying
This is the same as the B234 series (Katana-C1).
The next few slides describe the tandem feed tray, in which paper can be fed
continuously without the tray ever running out.
This tray can be converted to an A3/DLT tray if required. In this case, tandem
feed is not used (only one stack of paper if larger than A4/LT). The optional tray
conversion kit was requested by the USA market for Legal size paper.
The basic tray mechanisms for the A3/DLT tray are similar to the tandem tray,
except for the tray lift and paper detection mechanism (these will be covered in
this section).
The trays lock together until the left-hand paper stack moves across to the right.
Then the left tray is released so that paper can be added without interrupting
copying.
