Keep these instructions
This machine is designed for drilling holes in cement blocks and brickwork using the
appropriate RIDGID diamond core bits and accessories. We strongly recommend that it
NOT be modified and/or used for any application other than for which is was intended
including powering other equipment. Ensure that the total work area can be viewed from
the operating position. Use barriers to keep people away. When drilling in ceilings or
walls ensure there are no electrical mains, gas or water pipes that may be accidentally
drilled. Use a metal detector for location before drilling. Take care that falling debris will
not cause any injury.
IMPORTANT NOTE
This tool is for professional use only.
Ensure correct diamond core bit is being used for the application and that the bit is in
good condition. The unit has a high torque and the following precautions should be
taken to avoid injury:
Do not force the tool and take care not to block the bit whilst drilling.
Ensure that you are correctly and firmly holding the tool with both hands when working.
Do not use the tool with arms extended or if both feet are not on a firm stable surface.
OPERATION
Side handle
When drilling by hand always use the drill with the side handle fixed (Fig. 1)
Electronic ON/OFF switch
The speed is increased the further the switch is depressed allowing precise control
during drilling. In normal conditions always work at the maximum speed.
Speed selection (HC-2 & RB-3W models) (Fig. 2)
Check the recommended speed for the size of diamond drill being used.
CAUTION: only change speeds when the machine has stopped and only in a clockwise
direction! (Note: it may help to slightly rotate the spindle manually if any resistance is
felt).
DRY DRILLING
The dust generated by certain materials can be injurious to your health. Where possible
always operate machines in a well-ventilated area and use adequate protective dust
masks. We strongly recommend the use of the dust extractor with a vacuum cleaner
(see Fig. 3).
The bits that should be used are 1/2" BSP (F) bits for dry drilling. There are two ranges
available:
- hard dry bits (blue bits): for hard materials like brickwork, concrete (not for hard or
reinforced concrete) .
- Soft dry bits (red bits): for soft materials like cellular concrete .
For dry drilling we recommend the use of a pilot drill system (see Fig. 3).
Use slow speeds in order to safely introduce the core bit in the material (5-10mm). The
pilot drill may now be removed and high speed can be used. When drilling, regularly
retrieve the core bit to clear the dust and debris.
For dry drilling the dust extractor only (58616) must be used (Fig. 4).
Cause and effects when dry drilling
Cause Effect
Drilling speed (rpm) too low Diamond bit does not drill. The core
glazes and eventually stops drilling
