Overview

The Rockville RCS350-6 is a 350-watt, 19-inch rack-mountable commercial amplifier/receiver designed for multi-speaker installations in various commercial settings such as restaurants, bars, cafes, lounges, schools, and conference rooms. It supports 70-volt, 100-volt, 8-ohm, and 4-ohm applications, offering flexibility for different speaker setups.

Function Description:

The RCS350-6 acts as a central hub for audio distribution, allowing users to connect and manage multiple audio sources and speakers across up to six independent zones. It integrates various input options, including three microphone inputs (two with echo control), two RCA line inputs, USB, SD card, Bluetooth, and FM radio. The amplifier features individual volume controls for each of the six zones, as well as separate volume controls for each microphone input and the MP3 module. A chime button is included for making announcements, particularly useful with the priority microphone input. The unit also offers recording functionality to USB or SD cards when in USB/SD mode.

Usage Features:

  • 70-Volt System Advantages: Simplifies wiring for multiple speakers, allows for long speaker wire runs without signal loss, and enables easy matching of speakers with the amplifier. Users can mix and match various 70-volt speakers (ceiling, wall-mounted, subwoofers). The system allows for custom wattage tapping on speakers (e.g., 1.5w, 3w, 5w, 10w) to tailor sound distribution in different areas.
  • Multi-Zone Control: Individual detented knobs for each of the six zones allow for precise volume adjustment in different areas.
  • Microphone Inputs: Three 1/4" TRS mic inputs are available. Mic 1 is a priority input, overriding other audio signals when active, and works in conjunction with the chime feature. Mic 2 and Mic 3 include echo controls (Repeat, Speed, Echo) for enhanced vocal effects, suitable for announcements or karaoke.
  • Audio Source Flexibility:
    • Bluetooth Streaming: Connects to Bluetooth-enabled devices (iPod, iPhone, Android phones, etc.) for wireless audio playback. The unit remembers the last paired device. Volume can be controlled from the device, MP3 module, and master volume.
    • USB/SD Playback: Supports USB flash drives and SD cards (up to 32GB) for playing MP3 and WAV audio files. Features include track skipping, fast-forward/rewind, and folder navigation.
    • FM Radio: Built-in FM tuner with auto-scan and station saving capabilities. An external antenna port is provided for improved reception.
    • Line Inputs: Two RCA line inputs allow connection of external audio devices like MP3 players, CD players, or TVs.
  • EQ Controls: 2-band EQ controls (Bass and Treble) adjust the overall output sound. Remote control offers preset EQ options (Normal, rock, pop, classic, jazz, country).
  • Chime Function: A dedicated chime button allows for a chime sound before announcements, useful with the priority Mic 1 input.
  • Remote Control: A multi-function remote control provides convenient access to power, mode selection, EQ presets, mute, volume adjustment, playback controls (play/pause, previous/next track, fast-forward/rewind), repeat modes, USB/SD input switching, and direct track selection via a number pad.
  • Recording Function: Users can record audio directly to a USB or SD card when the unit is in USB/SD mode by pressing and holding the Menu/Record button.
  • In-Wall Volume Control Support: The amplifier is compatible with in-wall volume controls for specific zones, allowing for localized volume adjustments without needing to access the main unit. Proper wiring and matching of wattage ratings between the wall controller and connected speakers are crucial.

Maintenance Features:

  • Clipping Limiter: Built-in clipping limiter protects speakers and the amplifier from overheating and damage due to excessive output signals.
  • Cooling System: An integrated cooling system helps maintain optimal operating temperatures for internal components, enhancing durability and reliability.
  • Status Indicator LEDs: LEDs for Power, Fault, and Clip provide visual feedback on the unit's operational status. The "Fault" LED indicates overheating or overload, while the "Clip" LED signals that the output signal is exceeding the supply voltage.
  • User Serviceable Fuse: A user-serviceable fuse compartment (7A-250V) allows for easy replacement of the fuse if necessary.
  • Ventilation: Proper ventilation is emphasized for rack mounting, recommending at least 1 RU of space above and below the unit, and at least 2 inches from side walls, with an open back for airflow.
  • Wiring Guidelines: Detailed instructions are provided for selecting appropriate speaker wire gauges based on distance and impedance, and for connecting speakers to 70V/100V direct outputs, 4-16 ohm direct outputs, and 70V zone outputs. Warnings are given against simultaneously using direct and zone outputs, and against using 8-ohm or 4-ohm speakers with 70V/100V outputs unless they have built-in transformers.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: A comprehensive troubleshooting section addresses common issues such as no power, no sound/low sound/distorted sound, buzzing sound, mic feedback, Bluetooth pairing failures, and USB/SD playback issues, offering practical solutions.
