LAYING-UP
THE
ENGINE
If
the
engine
is
not
used
foro
fairly
long
time
(e.
g.
in
summer),
ther
e is a
danger
of
rusting.
In
such
cases
the
following
precautions
sho
ul
d
be
taken
to
protec
t
th
e
engine:
1. Mix
the
fuel with a
running-in
and
anti-corrosion
oil in 25 : 1
proportion
and
run
the
engine
on
this
mixture
for
a
short
time.
Use
oils
with
a
viscosity
grade
SAE 30
os
s
upp
lied
by
leading
oil
compan
ies (e.
g.
ENSIS
Oil
30
available
from
SHELL
).
After
the
last
run
before
laying-up,
the
e
ngine
should
be
st
opped
at
fu
ll
opera
ting
speed
by
means
of
the
short-circu
iting
button,
while
t
he
choke
on
the
carbu
rett
or
sho
uld
be
kept
clo
sed.
When
th
e e
ngine
ha
s
st
opped
, cl
ose
the
fuel
tap.
Th
es
e
precaution
s will
adequately
protect
the
crankshaft
,
connecting
rod
and
main
bear-
ings
against
corros
ion.
2. To
protect
the
cylinde
r a
nd
the
piston
, pl
ace
the
pis
to
n
at
top
dead
center
,
unscrew
the
sparki
ng
plug
and
pour
3 ... 5
cc

of
anti-corrosion
oil
through
the
spark
ing
plug
hole
.
Then
iurn
the
0
ngine
15 ...
20
times
by
means
of
the
s
tarter
and
sc
rew
in
the
spark
plug.
3. To
protect
the
engi
ne
exte
rn
ally,
it is
reco
mmended
ihat
anti-corrosion
oils
be
used
as
supplied
by
the
leadi
ng
oil
compani
es;
for
example
:
