Device)windowmayappearduringthesounddriver
installation.
ThishappensbecausetheHighDenitionAudio

system,haschangedthesettingstosearchforboth
soundandmodemdevices.Ifyouinstallthemodem
device,thismessagewillnotappear.Ifnecessary,
installthemodemdevicetogether.

I cannot hear the modem sound.
A1 Checkthatthetelephonelineisproperlyconnected
to the modem.
A2 Checkthatthemodemdriverisinstalledproperly.
ClickStart > Control Panel > Performance
and Maintenance > System.
SelectHardwaretab> Device Manager >
Modems in the System Propertieswindow,
andcheckifthereisayellowexclamationmark
ontheinstalledmodemicon.Ifthereis,delete
themodemdevicedriverandreinstallthe
driver,becausetheyellowexclamationmark
representsanotproperlyinstalleddriver.
Ifthereisnoyellowexclamationmark,double-
clicktheinstalledmodem,andclickDiagnostics
tab> Query Modem in the Modem Properties
window to diagnose the modem.
NomessageineitherofCommandandResponse
intheDiagnosticstabmeansthatthemodemisnot
operatingproperly.
Diagnosethemodemagainafterrestartingthe
systemorreinstallingthedriver.
(Youhavetoexitallprogramsusingmodeminthe
advanceofdiagnosticsofthemodem).
