Using the spectrum analyzer
1 Checking the frequency distribution of
the recording source
The spectrum analyzer allows you to check the
frequency distribution of various sound sources.
It’s handy for setting the recording level when
tape recording. Although the normal rule is ‘the
higher the recording level, the. lower the noise
level in the recording,” it also happens that the
higher the recording level, in accordance with the
saturation level of the tape, the narrow the high
frequency band. When there are many high-range
components in the recording source, reduce the
recording level slightly. When checking the re-
cording source, set the tone controls on the pre-
amplifier to a position which yields a flat re-
sponse.
2 Adjusting the sound quality
By comparing the sound you hear and the fre-
quency distribution on the spectrum analyzer
or checking the difference, you can check the
adjustment of the sound quality produced by the
positions of the tone controls on the preamplifier
and also make adjustments to your preference.

1 Vérification de fa distribution des fré-
quences d’une source d’enregistrement.
L‘analyseur du spectre permet de vérifier !a distri-
bution des fréquences de diverses sources sonores
et il s‘avere pratique pour déterminer le niveau
pour un enregistrement sur bande magnétique. La
régle générale est, certes, la suivante: ‘‘Plus élevé
est le niveau d'‘enregistrement, moindre est le
niveau des bruits présents dans I|‘enregistrement’’,
toutefois, il peut aussi arriver que, plus haut est le
niveau d’‘enregistrement, plus étroite est la plage
des hautes fréquences’’, d’aprés le niveau de
saturation de la bande utilisée. Ainsi, quand la
source 4 enregistrer comporte de nombreux com-
posants haute fréquence, réduire Iégérement le
niveau d’enregistrement. Lors du contréle de la
source d’enregistrement, régler les commandes
de tonalité du préamplificateur a une position qui
apporte une réponse plate.
2 Réglage de Ia qualité du son
En comparant le son que l‘on entend et ta distri-
bution des fréquences sur |’analyseur du spectre
ou en étudiant la différence, on pourra vérifier fe
réglage de la qualité du son produit aux positions
choisies pour les commandes de tonalité du pré-
amplificateur et effectuer aussi les réglages qui
conviennent a ses préférences propres.

Benutzung des Spektralanalysators
1 Oberpriifen der Frequenzverteilung der
Aufnahmetonquelle
Mit Hilfe des Spektralanalysators kénnen Sie die
Frequenzverteilung der verschiedenen Tonquellen
Uberprifen. Er eignet sich hervorragend zum
Aussteuern des Aufnahmepegels bei Tonbandauf-
nahmen. Obwohl allgemein die Regel gilt: je
hoher der Aufnahmepegel desto geringer der
Rauschpegel bei Aufnahmen, kommt es auch vor,
da&, in Ubereinstimmung mit dem Sattigungsgrad
des Tonbands, je héher der Aufnahmepegel ist,
der Hochfrequenzbereich umso enger wird. Re-
duzieren Sie daher bei starkem Hochfrequenz-
anteil in der Aufnahmetonquelle leicht den Auf-
nahmepegel. Stellen Sie beim Uberpriifen der
Aufnahmetonquelle die Klangregler am Vorver-
starker auf eine Position, bei der sich ein flacher
Frequenzgang ergibt.
2 Regulieren der Klangqualitat
Indem Sie den Klang, den Sie héren, mit der
Frequenzverteilung des Spektralanalysators ver-
gleichen, oder die Differenz iiberpriifen, kénnen
Sie die Klangqualitat anhand der Stellung der
Kiangregler am Vorverstarker tiberwachen und
wunschgemak korrigieren.
