Question and Answer IconNeed help?

Do you have a question about the Schwank Select12 Series and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Schwank Select12 Series Air Curtain is a device designed to provide heating, design, and comfort, functioning as an air curtain for various applications. It comes in ambient, electric heated, and water heated models, offering flexibility for different environmental needs.

Function Description

The air curtain creates a barrier of air across an opening, preventing the exchange of air between two spaces. This helps maintain indoor temperatures, reduce energy consumption, and keep out dust, insects, and odors. The Select12 Series features an integrated control system that can be remotely controlled, allowing for convenient operation.

The ambient models are designed for applications where heating is not required, primarily focusing on air separation. Electric heated models incorporate electric heating elements to provide warmth, while water heated models utilize a hot water coil for heating.

  • Height (H): 8.22 inches.
  • Depth (D): 11.81 inches.
  • Minimum Distance: 2.36 inches from the ceiling and 1.18 inches from the side.

Usage Features

The Select12 Series is designed for easy installation and operation.

  • Mounting: The unit can be mounted using threaded rods for ceiling mount, pendulum ceiling bars, or pendulum ceiling brackets. Wall brackets are also available for wall mounting. Minimum distances from walls and ceilings must be observed for proper airflow and maintenance access.
  • Control System: The air curtain features an integrated control system that can be remotely controlled. It includes settings for fan speed (1/2/3), heat step (half/full power for electric/water heated models), and on/off. A door contact switch can be integrated for automatic operation when a door opens or closes.
  • Temperature Control: For heated models, the control panel allows for temperature adjustment. If the temperature exceeds 122°F, the fan runs at full speed for 2 minutes to vent out the heat. If the temperature rises above 122°F again during the following 5 minutes, an overheating alarm is displayed.
  • Remote Control: A remote control is provided for adjusting fan speed, heat steps, and on/off functions.
  • DIP Switches: Internal DIP switches allow for configuration of the unit, such as enabling or disabling external on/off, an egg timer switch, and external potential-free closure.
  • Electrical Connections: The units require specific electrical connections depending on the model (208V1~, 208V3~, 480V3~, 600V3~). Wiring diagrams are provided for ambient, water heated, and electric heated models.
  • Water Connections (Water Heated Models): The unit connects to a hot water heating system via 3/4" valves. A water heated plumbing kit is available, including a valve kit, nipple connection, actuator, and bypass valve.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for optimal performance and longevity of the air curtain.

  • Filter Cleaning: The air curtain should be cleaned regularly to ensure efficient operation. A clogged filter can lead to reduced airflow and efficiency. The filter can be removed for cleaning.
  • Impeller/Motor Cleaning: The impeller and motor should be cleaned periodically to remove dust and debris. This involves disconnecting power, removing the front panel, and accessing the motor and fan.
  • Heating Elements/Heating Package (Electric Heated Models): The heating elements/package should be inspected and cleaned as needed. This involves disconnecting power, removing the front panel, and accessing the heating elements.
  • Water Coil (Water Heated Models): The water coil should be cleaned and checked for any blockages. The drain valve on the underside of the coil can be accessed for maintenance.
  • General Cleaning: The exterior of the unit should be cleaned with a damp cloth. Avoid using abrasive or acidic cleaning agents.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides guidance on troubleshooting common issues, such as overheating, and outlines steps for resolving them, including checking the isolator switch and identifying the cause of the fault.
  • Professional Service: For complex issues or repairs, it is recommended to contact a qualified service technician.
  • Safety: Always disconnect power before performing any maintenance or installation activities. The unit must be installed and used according to local regulations and the manufacturer's instructions to ensure safety.

The Select12 Series Air Curtain is designed for durability and ease of service, with readily available replacement parts for various components such as front covers, impellers, motors, nozzle grills, internal sensors, PCBs, and heating elements.
