Overview

The Sealey Motorcycle Wheel Bearing Removal Kit, Model No: MS062, is a specialized tool designed for the easy and efficient removal of wheel bearings from motorcycles, ATVs, and Quad Bikes. This kit covers a range of bearing sizes from 10mm to 25mm, making it suitable for most popular models.

Function Description:

The primary function of the MS062 kit is to facilitate the removal of wheel bearings without causing damage to the wheel, hub, or other surrounding components. It operates by utilizing a system of collets and drifts. A correctly sized collet is inserted into the center of the wheel bearing. A tapered drift is then hammered into a designated slot in the collet, which expands the collet and binds it firmly to the inner race of the wheel bearing. Once the collet is securely bound, the drift is struck again with a hammer to drive the bearing and collet out of the hub. This method ensures a secure grip on the bearing, allowing for controlled and safe extraction.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model Number: MS062
  • Bearing Size Coverage: 10mm to 25mm
  • Components:
    • Large Drift (x1)
    • Small Drift (x1)
    • Collets (x7): 10mm, 12mm, 15mm, 17mm, 19mm, 20mm, 25mm
  • Material: Not explicitly stated, but implied to be durable for hammering and bearing extraction.
  • Application: Motorcycles, ATVs, Quad Bikes.

Usage Features:

The kit emphasizes safe and correct usage, providing detailed instructions for operation.

  • Preparation: Before using the kit, users must remove the motorcycle wheel according to the manufacturer's service instructions. If present, retaining circlips and hub bearing seals must also be removed. It is recommended to replace the hub bearing seal with a new item after removal.
  • Collet Insertion: The first step involves selecting the closest fitting collet and inserting it into the center of the wheel bearing. The wheel is then placed on a firm, solid surface with the collet lowermost, ensuring the allocated slot in the collet is visible through the hub.
  • Drift Insertion: The tapered end of the appropriate drift (large or small, depending on the bearing size and collet) is located into the allocated slot in the collet. A hammer is used to firmly strike the drift, expanding the collet and binding it to the inner race of the wheel bearing.
  • Bearing Removal: The wheel and hub must be adequately supported to provide sufficient clearance for the bearing and collet to be driven out, and to prevent damage to brake discs, the hub, or the wheel rim. The drift is then struck with a hammer to remove the wheel bearing and collet from the hub.
  • Disassembly: After extraction, the drift, wheel bearing, and collet are separated. The drift can be gripped in a vice to facilitate careful detachment of the wheel bearing and collet using a hammer.
  • Safety Precautions: The manual highlights several critical safety warnings:
    • Adherence to Health & Safety, local authority, and general workshop practice requirements.
    • Always refer to motorcycle manufacturer's service instructions.
    • Ensure the motorcycle wheel and hub are in good condition.
    • Use the kit in a suitable, clean, tidy, and well-lit work area.
    • Keep children and unauthorized persons away.
    • Keep hands clear of the drift and hammer during use.
    • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including eye protection and protective gloves.
    • DO NOT use the kit for purposes other than its design.
    • DO NOT use the kit if any part is damaged or missing.
    • DO NOT allow untrained persons to use the kit.
    • DO NOT attempt bearing removal while tired or under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or intoxicating medication.
    • The warnings and instructions provided cannot cover all possible conditions, emphasizing the need for common sense and caution from the operator.

Maintenance Features:
