Structure and functions
The nozzle is a precision assembly used to inject the fuel, which is fed from the injection pump under pressure, to the
combustion chamber. It consists of the components as shown in Fig. 3-42 on page 3-18. The fuel is fed under pressure,
from the oil hole of the nozzle holder main body to the nozzle body. When the pressure exceeds the specified value, the
spring is compressed opening the valve, allowing the fuel to be injected into the combustion chamber. At the same time,
the fuel lubricates and cools the nozzle and nozzle body. Excess fuel is returned to the tank by the return line.
Symptom Possible Cause Check or Remedy
1. Engine does not
start.
1. Empty fuel tank or air mixed in fuel.
2. Defective engine stop solenoid.
1. Fill fuel tank, check for air entering
system, bleed air.
2. Check and replace the electric system.
2. Engine starts but
will not stop at
once.
1. Filter or lines clogged.
2. Air mixed in fuel.
3. Fuel tank filter cap air breather clogged.
4. Short-circuit or disconnected wire in
wiring harness to engine stop solenoid.
