Overview

The ShoreStation Vertical Lift Boat Lift is designed to provide a dependable and secure method for storing and protecting watercraft from algae growth and damage when not in use. This owner's manual details the operation, maintenance, and safety guidelines for aluminum vertical lift boat lifts equipped with a mechanical winch system, ranging in lifting capacity from 1,500 to 6,000 lbs.

Function Description

The primary function of the ShoreStation Vertical Lift Boat Lift is to raise and lower a boat straight up and down, preventing it from sitting in the water. This vertical lift design is particularly suitable for shallow water applications due to its V-platform. The lift utilizes a mechanical winch system to transfer the load equally to all four corners of the platform via cables, ensuring stable and level lifting. The winch mechanism incorporates a unique brake system that holds the platform in the raised position when the hand wheel is released, providing security and preventing accidental lowering.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Lift Type: Aluminum Vertical Lift Boat Lift with Mechanical Winch System.
  • Lifting Capacity: Ranges from 1,500 lbs to 6,000 lbs.
  • Platform Design: V-platform, suitable for shallow water.
  • Cable System: Stainless steel cables routed through pulleys and cable retainers, designed for equal load distribution.
  • Winch Tube Assembly: Adjustable height for optimal boat access and lift height maximization.
  • Minimum Water Depth: Approximately 12”-14” plus the draft of the boat.
  • Maximum Water Depth: Standard lift leg up to 4.5 ft; extension leg up to 6 ft; deep-water lift models up to 9 ft.
  • Winch Operation: Requires approximately 40 lbs of rim pull to raise the lift at capacity.
  • Brake System: Integrated brake mechanism designed to hold the platform in any raised position.
  • Construction: All-aluminum construction, with some models combining steel and aluminum for enhanced strength.

Usage Features

  • Boat Positioning: Boats should be positioned on the lift to ensure equal weight distribution on each platform. Adjustable motor stops (on 1500 – 9,000 lb. aluminum lifts) or front-end boat stops (for inboards) help in consistent positioning.
  • Platform Height Positioning: The platform should be lowered until the boat is almost floating free but still stabilized by the platform, aiding in easy loading and unloading.
  • Centering System: The bunk system guides the boat into the lift upon return, especially when the platform is positioned correctly.
  • Level Installation: The lift must be installed level to ensure smooth operation without binding.
  • Safety and Security: A wheel lock is provided for mechanical winches, allowing a padlock to be used for added security when unattended.
  • Hand Wheel Operation: Turn the hand wheel clockwise to raise the platform. Turning counterclockwise lowers the platform. The brake mechanism engages automatically when the hand wheel is released during raising.
  • Winch Tube Height Adjustment: The winch tube assembly can be adjusted up or down to better accommodate installation requirements and improve boat access. This involves loosening clamps, tapping the assembly down, and re-tightening. Note that lowering the winch tube reduces the maximum lift height.
  • Leveling the Lift Platform: The platform can be leveled by adjusting the nuts on the threaded cable ends. For larger adjustments, the top side rail can be adjusted as a unit.

Maintenance Features

  • Annual Inspection: A thorough inspection is recommended at the start of each season.
  • Fastener Check: All fasteners should be checked for tightness.
  • Frame Inspection: The frame should be checked for bent members and signs of fatigue.
  • Pulley Inspection: Pulleys should be checked periodically to ensure they are turning freely and are not damaged. Pulleys MUST TURN at all times to prevent damage to cables.
  • Cable Inspection: All cables should be inspected for fraying, wearing, and deterioration, especially at the attaching ends. Damaged cables must be replaced immediately.
  • Winch Mechanism Maintenance: The winch mechanism should be checked for proper functioning annually.
  • Lubrication:
    • Grease the winch drive chain at the start of each season.
    • Apply a light coating of grease on the acme threads of the drive shaft and inside the wheel hub to prevent seizing. A small tube of grease is supplied for this purpose.
    • WARNING: Avoid excess grease on brake disc pad surfaces, as it can cause glazing and reduce braking friction.
  • Brake System Servicing:
    • Disassemble the brake system by removing the cap nut, flat washer, and hand wheel.
    • Clean any grease or rust from the disc brake pad, clutch plate, and drive shaft using emery cloth.
    • Inspect the brake disc pad for glazing; recondition with emery cloth or replace if necessary.
    • Reinstall components, ensuring proper alignment and lubrication of threads without contaminating brake surfaces.
  • Winch Tube Service: The winch tube assembly is pre-assembled at the factory. For any issues, it is recommended to contact a local dealer or ShoreStation customer service, as special tools are required for assembly and repair.
  • Parts Resourcing: Refer to the online parts resourcing system for ordering repair parts from a dealer.
  • Warranty Registration: Fill out and mail the Warranty Registration Card or register online at www.shorestation.com to activate the lift's warranty.
