Usage Features

Placement:

  • MX890: Place no more than 25 cm (1 ft.) from the edge of the table. Aim the microphone toward the talker and away from loudspeakers and noise sources. Use one microphone per talker.
  • MX690: Place within 1.5 m (5 ft.) of a talker. Aim the microphone toward the talkers and away from loudspeakers and noise sources. Use one microphone for every two talkers.
  • RF Interference: Maintain a distance of at least 0.3 m (1 ft.) between transmitters to minimize RF interference. Increase distance or change channels if interference occurs.
  • Receiver Placement: Ensure the receiver is within sight of the transmitter. Avoid placing the receiver behind metal barriers or reflective surfaces.

Gooseneck Connection (MX890):

  1. Align the pin on the microphone flange with the slot on the desktop base.
  2. Insert the gooseneck into the desktop base and lock it by rotating the gooseneck sleeve clockwise.

Power On/Off:

  • With the battery door open, press and hold the ON/OFF button for approximately 2 seconds until the LCD screen illuminates.
  • To turn off, press and hold the ON/OFF button for approximately 2 seconds until the LCD screen is blank and external LEDs go dark.
  • To power on without opening the battery compartment, press and hold the plastic ON/OFF button on the battery door for approximately 2 seconds.

Mute Button: The PUSH button can be configured for toggle or momentary operation.

  • Toggle (as supplied): Toggles the microphone between active and muted states. Powers up in the active state.
  • Momentary:
    • Push-to-Mute: Microphone is muted only while the button is pressed and held.
    • Push-to-Talk: Microphone is active only while the button is pressed and held.
  • Changing Mute Mode:
    • To change between toggle and momentary: Hold the PUSH button and press the SELECT button.
    • To change between push-to-talk and push-to-mute: First, set the button for momentary operation. Then, hold the SELECT button and press the PUSH button.

Mute Indicator:

  • MX890: The gooseneck microphone LED indicates status.
    • Active: Green (MX405/MX410), Red (MX405R/MX410R Light Ring)
    • Muted: Red/Flashing Green* (MX405/MX410), Off/Flashing* (MX405R/MX410R Light Ring)
    • *To toggle between off and flashing, press PUSH and ON/OFF simultaneously.
  • MX690: The bi-color LED on top indicates status.
    • Steady (as supplied): Active = Green, Muted = Red
    • Flashing: Active = Green, Muted = Flashing Green

Locking Settings:

  • Press ON/OFF and SELECT simultaneously to lock or unlock transmitter settings. When locked, current settings cannot be manually changed. This does not disable IR frequency synchronization or the High Pass/Low Cut filter.

Logic Mode:

  • For use with a logic-enabled receiver, an automatic sync must be performed. The LCD flashes "log" during sync and when powered up in logic mode.

Automatic Frequency Synchronization:

  1. Power off all transmitters.
  2. Open the battery cover of the first transmitter and power it on.
  3. Aim the transmitter's IR sensor at the receiver's IR port (no more than 15 cm / 6 in. away).
  4. Press and hold the receiver's SYNC button to send group and channel data. The red LED on the transmitter will stop flashing when programming is complete.
  5. Power off the first transmitter and repeat the synchronization process for each additional transmitter and receiver pair.

Manual Frequency Synchronization:

  1. Press and hold the transmitter SELECT button until the desired group number appears.
  2. Press SELECT again and release it when the desired channel number appears.

Tips for Optimum Performance:

  • Maintain a direct line of sight between transmitter and receiver antennas.
  • Avoid placing the transmitter on metal surfaces.
  • Avoid placing laptop computers or other obstructions in front of the microphone.
  • Only use with a Shure SLX4L wireless receiver.

Maintenance Features

Battery Installation:

  1. Open the battery compartment.
  2. Insert two 1.5 V "AA" batteries, ensuring correct +/- terminal orientation.
  • Alkaline batteries last up to 8 hours. Rechargeable, carbon-zinc, and zinc-chloride batteries provide less operating time.

Power Meter:

  • The battery meter on the LCD shows remaining battery life.

Low Power Indicator:

  • Steady Red: Power low, replace batteries immediately.
  • Pulsing Red: Batteries dead, transmitter cannot be turned on until batteries are replaced.

Troubleshooting:

  • Ensure both transmitter and receiver are on.
  • Replace battery if the battery LED is red.
  • Verify identical Group/Channel settings for each transmitter-receiver pair.
  • Ensure unobstructed line of sight between transmitter and receiver. Reposition receiver or decrease distance if necessary.
  • Remove local sources of RF interference (e.g., computers, lighting).
  • Remove metal objects within 0.3 m (1 ft.) of the transmitter.
