When using the C4000 ATEX II 3G/3D safety light curtain, observe the following notes in
addition to the information in the underlying operating instructions.
2.1 Applications of the device
The device is a type 4 ESPE as defined by IEC 61496-1 and IEC 61 496-2 and is therefore
allowed for use with category 4 controls as per EN ISO 13849-1. The device meets the
ATEX-requirements in compliance with EN 60079-0, EN 60079-15, EN 60079-28 for
category 3G and in compliance with EN 61241-0, EN 60079-31 for category 3D.
2.2 General safety notes and protective measures
Safety notes
Please observe the following procedures in order to ensure the correct and safe use of the
C4000 ATEX II 3G/3D safety light curtain.
For the installation and usage of electrical devices in explosive areas, as well as for
commissioning and periodic technical inspections, special national/international rules
and regulations apply, in particular the ATEX directive.
Manufacturers and operators of the machine with which the safety light curtain is used
are responsible for obtaining and observing all applicable safety regulations and rules.
This addendum must be made available to the operator of the machine where the
C4000 ATEX II 3G/3D safety light curtain is used, together with the original operating
instructions. The machine operator is to be instructed in the use of the device by specia-
list personnel and must be instructed to read and observe the operating instructions.
Protect the front screen on the safety light curtain against UV radiation!
UV radiation can reduce the service life and durability of the device front screen. On usage
in an explosion-protected area, the front screen must not be subjected to any UV radiation
(e.g. sunlight).
Choose the mounting position such that the front screen is not subjected to any UV
radiation.
Pay attention to the maximum mechanical load on the safety light curtain!
The C4000 ATEX II 3G/3D safety light curtain withstands the impact strength test in
accordance with the requirements in the standards. It is only allowed to be subject to
mechanical loads up to a maximum of 4 Joules for device components made of plastic and
up to a maximum of 2 Joules for transparent parts (front screen).
