Overview

This document is an instruction manual for a Siemens extractor hood, providing comprehensive guidance on its installation, operation, and maintenance. The extractor hood is designed for domestic use, specifically within household environments, and is not intended for external or unattended operation. It can be safely used by children over 8 years old and individuals with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capacities, provided they are supervised or instructed on safe usage and understand the associated risks. Children under 8 years old should be kept at a safe distance from the appliance and its power cable. The appliance is suitable for use at altitudes up to 2000 meters above sea level.

Function Description

The Siemens extractor hood is primarily designed to remove cooking fumes, steam, and odors from the kitchen environment, improving air quality and preventing the build-up of grease and moisture. It operates in both exhaust air mode and circulating air mode. In exhaust air mode, it extracts air from the kitchen and expels it outside through an exhaust duct. In circulating air mode, the extracted air is filtered through grease and activated charcoal filters before being recirculated back into the kitchen.

The appliance features a control panel with intuitive symbols for various functions. These include:

  • Fan On/Off: To switch the extractor hood's fan on or off.
  • Light On/Off/Dimming: To control the integrated lighting, including adjusting its brightness.
  • Decrease/Increase Fan Setting: To adjust the fan speed, with settings typically ranging from 1 to 3, and additional intensive modes (1 and 2) for higher extraction power.
  • Boost Function: A temporary setting for maximum extraction power, useful for quickly clearing strong odors or large amounts of steam. This function automatically reverts to a lower fan setting after a brief period.
  • Fan Run-on: A feature that allows the fan to continue operating at a low speed for a set duration (e.g., 10 minutes) after cooking has finished, to ensure complete removal of residual fumes, before automatically switching off.

The control panel also includes indicators for:

  • Metal Grease Filter Saturation: Alerts the user when the metal grease filters need cleaning.
  • Activated Charcoal Filter Saturation: Indicates when the activated charcoal filters need replacement or regeneration, depending on the filter type.

The extractor hood is designed to be energy-efficient. Tips for saving energy include ensuring adequate air supply during cooking, adjusting fan speed to the amount of steam produced, using intensive mode only when necessary, switching off the hood and lighting when not needed, and regularly cleaning or replacing filters.

Usage Features

To operate the extractor hood effectively, it is recommended to switch it on when cooking begins and switch it off a few minutes after cooking is finished. This approach ensures optimal removal of kitchen fumes.

  • Setting the Fan: The fan can be switched on by touching the designated symbol, typically starting at a default setting (e.g., setting 2). The fan speed can then be increased or decreased using the '+' and '-' symbols. To switch off the fan, the fan on/off symbol is touched again.
  • Lighting Control: The lighting operates independently of the fan. It can be switched on or off by touching the light symbol. The brightness of the LED lights can be adjusted by pressing and holding the light symbol until the desired brightness level is achieved.
  • Intensive Setting: For situations with a significant build-up of odors or fumes, the intensive setting can be activated by repeatedly touching the '+' symbol until 'int' appears on the display. The hood will automatically revert to a lower fan setting after a preset time (e.g., 6 minutes).
  • Boost Function: The Boost function provides a short period of maximum extraction power. It is activated by touching the 'b' symbol and automatically switches back to the previously set fan speed after approximately 20 seconds.
  • Fan Run-on Time: To activate the fan run-on feature, the 'I' symbol is touched. The fan will operate at a low setting (e.g., setting 1) for a predetermined duration (e.g., 10 minutes) before automatically switching off. This function can be manually stopped by touching the 'I' symbol again.
  • Audible Signal: The appliance can be configured to emit an audible signal as an acknowledgment for certain operations. This feature can be switched on or off by pressing and holding the fan on/off and boost symbols simultaneously for about 3 seconds.

Maintenance Features

Regular cleaning and maintenance are crucial for the efficient and safe operation of the extractor hood.

  • Saturation Display: The appliance features saturation indicators for both metal grease filters and activated charcoal filters. When these filters are saturated, their respective symbols will flash after the appliance is switched off, prompting the user to clean or replace them. The saturation indicators can be reset by touching the '-' symbol while they are flashing.
  • Filter Cleaning/Replacement: Metal grease filters should be cleaned regularly, typically every two months, to prevent the accumulation of fatty deposits, which pose a fire risk. They can be cleaned either by hand in hot soapy water using a brush or in a dishwasher at a temperature no higher than 70°C. Activated charcoal filters, if non-renewable, should be replaced twice a year.
  • Cleaning the Appliance Surfaces: The appliance surfaces, including stainless steel, painted surfaces, aluminum, plastic, glass, and controls, require specific cleaning methods to prevent damage.
    • Stainless Steel: Clean with a damp dishcloth and hot soapy water, then dry with a soft cloth. Clean in the direction of the grain. Special stainless steel cleaning products can be used.
    • Painted Surfaces: Clean with a damp dishcloth and hot soapy water, then dry with a soft cloth. Do not use stainless steel cleaner.
    • Aluminum and Plastic: Clean with a soft cloth and hot soapy water.
    • Glass: Clean with glass cleaner and a soft cloth. Avoid using a glass scraper.
    • Controls: Clean with a damp cloth and hot soapy water. Do not use a wet cloth on controls to prevent moisture ingress into electronic circuitry.
    • General Cleaning Agents: Avoid using harsh, abrasive, high-alcohol content, or lime-dissolving cleaning agents, as well as scouring pads, steam cleaners, pressure washers, and oven sprays. New sponge cloths should be thoroughly washed before use.
  • Removing and Installing Metal Grease Filters: To clean the metal grease filters, they must first be removed. This involves opening a lock and swinging the filter down, then taking it out of its holder. When reinstalling, ensure the filter is correctly positioned and locked in place.
  • Safety Precautions during Maintenance: Always allow the appliance to cool down before cleaning to avoid burns. Disconnect the appliance from the mains power supply or switch off the circuit breaker in the fuse box before cleaning to prevent electric shock. Wear protective gloves when handling internal components due to sharp edges.
  • Protective Film: Before initial use, remove any protective film from all parts of the appliance to prevent surface damage.

The manual also emphasizes the importance of professional installation and repair, particularly for electrical connections and damaged power cables, to ensure safety and proper functioning. It provides contact information for customer service and details about available accessories, such as different types of recirculation modules and filters.
