19. Trouble-shooting
If your device fails to function as required, please try this checklist first. Perhaps there is only
a minor problem, and you can solve it yourself.
DANGER! Risk of electric shock!
 Do not attempt to repair the device yourself under any circumstances.
Fault Possible causes / Action
No function
• Has the device been connected to the power supply?
• Check the connection.
Poor quality espresso
You will find tips on preparing espresso in the chapter
“Tips for the perfect espresso” on page 64.
The espresso is too cold. • Cup not preheated?
• Filter1/2 portafilter19 and brewing head13 not
preheated?
Espresso only drips out of the
portafilter19 or also flows
over the edge of the portafilter.
• Espresso powder ground too fine? Too much espresso
powder? Too firmly tamped?
• Espresso powder on the edge of the filter1/2?
• Check the hole on the underside of the filter1/2 for
blockages.
• Does the machine / brewing head13 need to be des-
caled?
Espresso flows out of the portafil-
ter
19 too quickly and is too thin.
• Espresso powder ground too coarsely? Not enough es-
presso powder? Not tight enough or unevenly com-
pressed?
The portafilter19 cannot be
turned all the way to the sym-
bol 15.
• Too much espresso powder?
• Espresso powder on the edge of the filter1/2?
Loud pump noise
• Is the water tank3 empty?
• Is the water tank3 or the hose6 not inserted correct-
ly?
• During initial start-up, this may be normal until the sys-
tem is filled with water.
No water or steam comes out
of the steam nozzle8.
• Is the water tank3 empty?
• Is the steam nozzle8 clogged?
• Does the machine / steam nozzle 8 need to be descaled?
