19. Trouble-shooting
If your device fails to function as required, please try this checklist first. Perhaps there is only
a minor problem, and you can solve it yourself.
DANGER! Risk of electric shock!
Do not attempt to repair the device yourself under any circumstances.

Has the device been connected to the power supply?
Check the connection.
Poor quality espresso
You will find tips on preparing espresso in the chapter
“Tips for the perfect espresso” on page 64.
The espresso is too cold. Cup not preheated?
Filter1/2 portafilter19 and brewing head13 not
preheated?
Espresso only drips out of the
portafilter19 or also flows
over the edge of the portafilter.
Espresso powder ground too fine? Too much espresso
powder? Too firmly tamped?
Espresso powder on the edge of the filter1/2?
Check the hole on the underside of the filter1/2 for
blockages.
Does the machine /
brewing head13
need to be des-
caled?

Espresso powder ground too coarsely? Not enough es-
presso powder? Not tight enough or unevenly com-
pressed?

Loud pump noise
Is the water tank3 empty?
Is the water tank3 or the hose6 not inserted correct-
ly?
During initial start-up, this may be normal until the sys-
tem is filled with water.
No water or steam comes out
