Overview

The Simplex 4190-9006 Remote CRT/Keyboard is a crucial component designed to provide remote visual indication of system events and facilitate remote communication with the Central Processing Unit (CPU) of various Simplex fire alarm and multiplex systems. This device serves as a remote terminal, allowing operators to monitor and interact with the system from a convenient location, enhancing operational flexibility and response capabilities.

Function Description:

The primary function of the 4190-9006 Remote CRT/Keyboard is to act as a remote interface for Simplex fire alarm and multiplex systems. It displays system events, alarms, troubles, and other critical information, mirroring the data shown on the main system's console. This remote visual indication is vital for quick assessment of system status, especially in large facilities where the main control panel might not be immediately accessible. Beyond mere display, the keyboard component allows for remote communication with the system's CPU, enabling operators to acknowledge events, silence signals, reset detectors, and potentially perform other system commands depending on the connected system's capabilities and configuration.

The device is compatible with several Simplex systems, including:

  • 2120 Multiplex System: For this system, the Aux Port on the 4190-9006 can be used for remote monitors, providing two-wire data transmission (XMIT & GND). It can support up to ten 4190-9006 terminals, provided the wiring distance does not exceed 2,500 feet and the total capacitive load does not exceed 1.25 mfd. Each terminal having an Aux Port allows for data repetition as needed.
  • 4010/4020 Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACPs): The device integrates with these panels to provide remote monitoring and control.
  • 4100+/4120 Fire Alarm System: Similar to the 4010/4020, it extends the system's interface to a remote location.

Important Technical Specifications:

The technical specifications primarily revolve around its connectivity and configuration settings, which are critical for proper integration with the host system.

Connectivity:

The 4190-9006 connects to the host system via an RS-232 serial interface. The supplied 733-812 cable is used for this connection, with a DB-25F connector at the CRT end. The loose ends of this cable need to be terminated to a DB-25F connector or directly to the system's board, depending on the specific Simplex system.

Cable Terminations (733-812 Cable):

  • For 2120 BMUX (RS-232 Port):
    • Red lead (XMIT): Pin 2 of a DB-25F connector
    • Black lead (RCV): Pin 3 of a DB-25F connector
    • Green lead (GND): Pin 7 of a DB-25F connector

Front Panel Programming for an RS-232 Port:

The manual also details how to configure an RS-232 port on a 4010 FACP from its front panel to support the remote CRT/Keyboard or a printer. This involves adding an RS-232 card to the system's job and then configuring its settings, including:

  • Port Type: PRT80U (Unsupervised, 80-column printer), Unused, PRT40S (Supervised, 40-column printer), PRT40U (Unsupervised, 40-column printer), PRT80S (Supervised, 80-column printer).
  • BAUD Rate: 1200, 2400, 4800, 9600, 19200, 38400.
  • PARITY: None, Even, Odd.
  • Event Routing: Allows selection of specific events (Fire, Supervisory, Trouble, Reset/Silence, Test, Control, Utility, Pseudo, CCE Print, Reports) to be sent to the port.

Maintenance Features:

  • Damage Inspection: Users are instructed to inspect the product for shipping damage upon unpacking. Any damage should be reported immediately to the carrier and Simplex.
  • Electrical Safety: Disconnecting electrical power is mandatory before any internal adjustments or repairs. Servicing should only be performed by qualified Simplex Representatives.
  • Static Control: Static electricity can damage components. Users are advised to ground themselves using a 553-484 Static Control Kit before handling components and to keep uninstalled components wrapped in anti-static material.
  • Configuration Save: After making any configuration changes, it is essential to save them by pressing the key. If the terminal becomes unresponsive, pressing can take it offline and bring it back online.
  • User's Guide Reference: For more detailed information, users are directed to refer to the User's Guide supplied with the terminal.

In summary, the Simplex 4190-9006 Remote CRT/Keyboard is a versatile and configurable remote interface designed to extend the monitoring and control capabilities of various Simplex fire alarm and multiplex systems, emphasizing safety, flexibility, and ease of configuration.
