What to do if laser activates, but no data appears on my Socket 7 Series Barcode Reader?
    • M
      manningjamesAug 25, 2025
If the laser activates when you try to scan with your Socket Barcode Reader, but no data appears on your screen, and the laser turns off, it could be due to a few reasons. * The scanner might be too close or too far from the bar code. Practice adjusting the distance and angle for optimal scanning. * The bar code might be incorrectly formatted or poorly printed. Try scanning a well-printed bar code from a retail package. * The bar code symbology might be disabled or unsupported. Use Scan Demo for Windows Mobile or the Test screen for Palm OS to identify the symbology, and enable it using Symbology Selector for Windows Mobile or the Symbology screen for Palm OS if necessary.

Why while scanning barcodes into a BlackBerry smartphone, I get an input system error?
    • K
      Keith ShermanSep 13, 2025
If you encounter an input system error while scanning barcodes into a BlackBerry smartphone, it's because you're using a CHS v2 scanner with SocketScan 10. SocketScan 10 is compatible only with CHS v3. Either downgrade your software to SocketScan 7 or upgrade your scanner to CHS v3.

If you're using the Barcode Reader in SPP mode and see the “CHS not connected” icon in the task tray of the Today screen, preventing you from triggering the scanner, ensure that your SoMo is connected to the Barcode Reader, that the Barcode Reader is on, in range, and has sufficient battery power. What to do if Socket CHS finds multiple devices?
    • M
      millerkellySep 23, 2025
If Connect!Agent finds multiple CHS devices and you're unsure which to select, especially when using Connect!Agent for the first time, it's likely due to multiple CHS devices using the default name. To resolve this, turn off the CHS device(s) you do not want to connect to. Tap Refresh. Connect!Agent will connect to and save information about your CHS to exclusively connect to it in the future.

What to do if I try to connect the Socket 7 Series to the PC and get an error message saying that SocketScan 10 could not open the COM port or had problems with COM port assignments?
    • L
      laurajohnsonAug 31, 2025
If you encounter an error message stating that SocketScan 10 couldn't open the COM port or had problems with COM port assignments when connecting the Barcode Reader to your PC, here are some steps to resolve the issue: * Ensure that each COM port is assigned to only one device. Use the SocketScan 10 Settings utility to assign the Barcode Reader to a different incoming Bluetooth serial COM if necessary. * Close SocketScan 7 if it is running simultaneously with SocketScan 10, and then try reconnecting. * Run SocketScan 10 with administrative privileges. Right-click on the SocketScan 10 desktop shortcut, select Properties, click Advanced, select Run as administrator, and click OK.
