The Sol-Air F2000 is an ultraviolet air decontamination and odor control system designed to improve indoor air quality by eliminating bacteria, viruses, toxic molds, chemicals, and unpleasant odors. It is manufactured by Sol-Air Systems Inc.
Function Description:
The F2000 operates by decontaminating air, targeting a wide range of airborne contaminants. It is effective against biological pathogens such as bacteria, viruses, and toxic molds, as well as chemical compounds and hundreds of odors resulting from various sources like fire, smoke, mildew, flood damage, chemical pollution, spills, sewage backup, black water, and standing gray water. The system utilizes UV lamps to achieve its decontamination goals.
Important Technical Specifications:
- Dimensions: 14" x 20" x 30" (35.6 x 50.8 x 76.2 cm)
- Weight: 75 lbs (34.1 kg)
- Power Requirements: 120V, 4.0A
- Starting: Selector Switch, with indicator light
- Fan Control: Variable Speed Control, ranging from 100 to 1000 cfm (Cubic Feet per Minute)
- Meter: 1/10 Quartz Hour Meter
- UV Lamps: The system is equipped with two 10" Dual Zone UV U-Lamps.
Usage Features:
The F2000 is designed for ease of operation and portability, making it a versatile solution for various indoor air quality challenges.
- Control Panel: The unit features a straightforward control panel with two indicator lights and three switches.
- AC Power Switch (with Red Indicator): This switch turns the power on/off and indicates AC power to the fan and the unit. When the machine is switched on, the red indicator light illuminates.
- Fan Speed Switch: This controls the speed of the air mover blower fan and the airflow through the system. It allows for variable fan speeds between 100 and 1000 CFM. Rotating the switch clockwise from the OFF position increases the fan speed, while rotating it counter-clockwise decreases it.
- Processor ON Indicator (Green): This light indicates when the first UV lamp is active and processing.
- Hour Meter: A quartz non-reversible indicator that tracks the accumulated hours of use for the system.
- HIGH Processor ON Indicator (Green): This light indicates when the second UV lamp is active and processing.
- Processor Switch (LOW / HIGH): This switch allows the user to select the intensity of the decontamination process by controlling the number of UV lamps in operation. "LO" activates one lamp, while "HIGH" activates both lamps.
- System Placement: The efficiency of the Sol-Air system is significantly influenced by its placement. For optimal decontamination, the system should be positioned as shown in Figure 2 of the manual, suggesting a circular airflow pattern. When using two or more systems, they should be placed to create a vortex, for example, on opposite sides of the affected area (Figure 3). It is recommended to keep all windows and doors closed during treatment to maximize effectiveness.
- Portability: The F2000 is described as portable, allowing for flexible deployment in different locations as needed.
- Chemical-Free Operation: The system operates without the use of chemicals, relying on UV technology for decontamination.
- Efficient Processing and Energy Efficiency: The F2000 is designed for efficient air processing and is energy efficient, contributing to lower operational costs.
- Safety: The system is designed with safety in mind, but users must adhere to specific warnings to prevent injury. These include disconnecting the unit from the power source before maintenance, avoiding operation in water, preventing direct eye and skin exposure to lit UV lamps, and allowing lamps to cool before handling.
Maintenance Features:
The Sol-Air F2000 is designed to be virtually maintenance-free, with key maintenance procedures focusing on cleaning and part replacement.
- System Case Cleaning:
- Exterior: The exterior can be cleaned with mild dishwashing detergent and a clean cloth, followed by rinsing with clean water. Harsh detergents, abrasives, or direct spraying into electrical components should be avoided to prevent damage to decals and the finish.
- Interior: The interior walls of the UV lamp chamber can be cleaned in the same manner as the exterior.
- UV Lamp Cleaning: During UV lamp replacement, new UV lamps should be cleaned to maintain peak processing efficiency. Fingerprints, smudges, dirt, and dust can interfere with UV radiation. Lamps should be cleaned with a 50/50 mixture of rubbing alcohol and clean water on a lint-free cloth (chamois recommended), wiped gently, and allowed to dry completely (20 minutes) before operation.
- UV Lamp Replacement:
- Frequency: UV lamps have an expected life of approximately 9,000 hours. While they don't burn out like incandescent bulbs, their effectiveness slowly diminishes over time. Replacement is recommended after the expected life to ensure effective air decontamination.
- Procedure:
- Disconnect Power: Always disconnect the unit from the electrical power source and allow 30 minutes for the system and lamps to cool down before starting.
- Remove Rear Panel: Unscrew the two thumbscrews at the top and bottom of the louvered rear panel and remove it.
- Remove Front Panel: Unscrew the two thumbscrews at the top and bottom of the front panel and remove it.
- Lamp Removal: From the back, hold the ceramic base of the lamp, disconnect the plug, and then remove the lamp from its upper, lower, and forward holding clamps.
- Lamp Installation: Insert the new lamp from the front, place it into the forward clamp, then insert it into the upper and lower clamps from the rear.
- Connect Plug: Connect the female plug to the 4-pin footing of the lamp, ensuring it fits in only one direction. Do not force the plug into the pins.
- Test System: Test the system to ensure both lamps are operating. If a lamp does not light, turn off the system, disconnect power, and repeat steps 4 and 5, then retest. During testing, ensure all users in the vicinity wear UV protective eyewear and avoid prolonged direct viewing of a lit lamp.
- Reinstall Panels: Reinstall the rear and front panels by screwing in the thumbscrews.
- Fuse Replacement:
- Fuse Types: The F2000 contains two Type CC sand-filled slow-blow fuses: a main/lower fuse (6A) protecting the entire system's electrical components, and a fan/upper fuse (4A) protecting the fan's electrical components.
- Procedure:
- Disconnect Power: Always disconnect the unit from the electrical power source before performing maintenance.
- Remove Fuse: To remove a fuse, press in and turn counter-clockwise.
- Insert New Fuse: To insert a new fuse, press it in and turn clockwise. Ensure the replacement fuse matches the same type and rating.
