Operating guidelines for electronic drives (WT series)
(translation of german version)
For Somfy drives in the WT series (e.g. J4 WT, Oximo WT, Orea WT, Ilmo 40 and 50 WT),
the following provisions must be observed:
1. The UP and DOWN directions of rotation must not be operated simultaneously. Only
operate using locked switches / control units or actuators.
(Exception: simultaneous UP and DOWN operation is permitted in the drive’s installa-
tion/programming mode)
2. Only operate the drive via one control point.
3. A switching break between UP and DOWN commands must be observed (as a
guideline: 500 ms).
4. For technical reasons, electronic drives react after a short time delay of approx. 180
ms. This wake-up time must be taken into consideration for short commands (tilting
and positioning).
5. In the event of operation via bus systems (e.g. KNX), it should be noted that the re-
adjustment mode cannot be activated inadvertently by the user. It is therefore im-
portant to avoid the WT drive being activated for more than 4 seconds in the direc-
tion already activated when at its end limit. The overtravel time should therefore be
set to <4 sec. on the actuator (this does not apply for J4 WT drives)
6. Parallel operation of several WT drives is permitted by means of the electronic limit
switch. The number of drives that can be operated in parallel is dependent on the
capacity of the switch or control unit operating them (generally 3 drives - see info
2010/024)
7. The length of the connection cable (switch/control unit to the drive) may not exceed
50 metres for WT drives. (See Info 2010/030)
(Due to long motor cables routed in parallel to cables carrying electrical current, the voltage
to the drive’s UP and DOWN connections may build up → capacitive coupling – Several
drives may not be grouped together in a single multipolar cable. Each drive must have its
own power supply line - see point 8.)
8. If a direction of rotation of the WT drive is operated, the voltage of the other direction
of rotation may not exceed 55 V rms. The voltage must be measured using a meas-
uring instrument with an input impedance of more than 1 MΩ. All consumers within
this installation must be switched on during measurement.
9. Somfy WT drives may not be operated using a solid state relay.
