When the batteries become weak , sound
becomes weak or distorted. When the batteries
run down completely, the power is turned off and
"coo" in the display window flashes. When the
power tumed on with the indicat ion flashing, the
power will be turned off right away . Wh en

starts flashing , replace all the batteries with new
ones. After the batte ries are replaced , turn the
power on again to stop the flashing of the
indication.
Replace the batteries within about one minute
after turning off the radio. If you do not replace
them within one minute, the preset stations may
be erased , the clock setting may be cleared and
'u'oo" flas hes in the display window .
For battery life, see "Specifications".
When the batteries are removed for a long time ,
preset stations will be erased and the clock
setting will be cleared . In this case, store
stations and reset the clock .
Using on Other Power
Sources
The internal batterie s are automatically
disconne cted when the AC powe r adaptor or the
car batte ry cord is connect ed to the DC IN 4.5 V
jack.

Current
Connect the Sony AC-E45M AC power adaptor
(not supplied) to the DC IN 4.5 V jac k. and plug it
into a wall outlet.
Car
Battery
For use on 12 V car battery, connect the Son y
DCC·E145L car battery cord (not supplied) to the
DC IN 4.5 V jack .
Whe n operating the unit on the batteries,
remove the AC powe r adaptor or car battery
cord .
The unit cannot be operated on the internal
batteries when the AC power adaptor or car
battery cord is connected to the DC IN 4.5 V
jack.
The batter ies should be inserted for bac kup
even when the unit is ope rated on AC powe r
adaptor or car battery cord.
Whe n the AC power adaptor is not used, be sure
to unplug it both from the DC IN 4.5 V jack and
from a wall outlet. If the AC power adap tor is
connec ted to the DC IN 4.5 V jack without
connec ting to a wall outlet. the clock will be reset
and the preset stations will be era sed .

Use only the recomm ended car battery cord or
AC power adaptor (not supplied) .
Do not use any other car battery cord or AC
power adaptor.

To preset other statio ns, repea t these steps.
To change the prese t station ,
preset
a new
station in the
numbe
r of which you want to
change the station . The previ ous station is
canceled.

1. Press POWER to turn the radio on.
2. Select the band using BAND!
STANDBY.
3. Press desired PRESET TUNING .
4. Adjust the voiurne using VOL (volume).
To improve radio recep tion
FM: Extend the telescop ic antenna and adjust
the length, direction and angle for the best
reception.

: Rotate the unit horizontally for optimum
receptio n. A ferrite bar antenna is built into the
unit.

Press KEY PROTECT . The
0--
mark will be
displayed , indicati ng that the front panel buttons
cannot be activated . This preve nts accidental
ope ration when the un it is be ing carried. You can
adjus t volu me even if the
0-
mark is displayed.
To release this function, press KEY
PROTECT
agai n.
When you press KEY
PROTECT
in the standby
mode , the standby mode will be canceled
tempo rarily until the KEY PROTECT function is
released .
Setting
the
Alarm
You can turn the radio on at the preset time . It will
be tuned in the statio n before the radio was
turned off. The radio will automatically turn off
after about 60 minutes, unless you turn it off.
1. Make sure the radio is turned off.
2. While holding down ALAR M, set the
time by pressing the TUNElTtME
+ or -
button.
Whiie ALA RM is pressed, the
"STANDBY" indication is tlashing in the
dispiay window.

3. Release ALARM.
The alarm time is set. The indication
becomes the current time.
