Precautions
¢ Operate the unit only on 4.5 V DC.
For battery operation, use three size AA (R6)
batteries.
For AC operation and car battery operation, use
accessories recommended for the unit. Do not use any
other type.
¢ The nameplate indicating operating voltage, etc. is
located on the rear.
¢ Do not leave the unit in a location near a heat source
such as a radiator or airduct, or in a place subject to
direct sunlight, excessive dust, mechanical vibration or
shock.
Use the unit within a temperature range of 0° C to 40°
C (32°F to 104’F). If it is used in temperatures higher
than this range, numbers may appear on the
frequency which have nothing to do with the frequency
being received. If it is used in temperatures lower than
this range, the numbers displayed may change very
slowly. (These irregularities will disappear and there
will be no damage to the unit when the unit is used in
its recommended temperature range.)

Should any problem persist after you have made
following checks, consult your nearest Sony dealer.
The unit is not turned on.
¢ Weak or incorrect polarity of batteries
© The o~ mark is displayed. Press the KEY PROTECT
button so that the o~ mark will disappear.
¢ The AC power adaptor or the car battery cord is
disconnected.
* Battery operation is attempted while the AC power
adaptor or the car battery cord is connected to the
unit, but not to a wail outlet or cigarette lighter socket.
The front panel buttons do not operate at all.
¢ The o» mark is displayed. Press the KEY PROTECT
button so that the o» mark will disappear.
Disptay is dim, or no indication is displayed.
¢ Weak batteries.
* The unit is being used in extremely high or low
temperatures or in place with excessive moisture.
Sound is not heard at all.
¢ The VOL control is turned down completely.
¢ The earphone is plugged in.
* Incorrect polarity of batteries

¢ Should any solid object or liquid fall in to the unit,
remove the batteries, and have the unit checked by
qualified personne! before operating it any further.
¢ Since a strong magnet is used for the speaker, keep
personal credit cards using magnetic coding or spring-
wound watches away from the unit to prevent possible
damage from the magnet.
¢ When the casing becomes soiled, clean it with a soft
cloth dampened with mild detergent solution. Never
use abrasive cleansers or chemical solvents, as they
may mar the casing.
If you have any question or problem concerning your
unit that is not covered in this manual, please consult
your nearest Sony dealer.
Very weak or interrupted sound, or unsatisfactory
reception

¢ Ina vehicte or in a building, listen near a window.
The station cannot be received in the preset tuning.
¢ The station has not been preset.
¢ The memory of the station has been erased.
Preset the station again.
The radio is not turned on at the preset time.
¢ The current time is not set correctly.
¢ The alarm time is not set correctly.
¢ The VOL control is turned down completely.
Sound is not heard and “coo” flashes in the display
window.
